Default gas mileage????

ok, so the window stick on a brand new XB said 22/29 or was it 22/28 for my 2010 XB. I am not getting anywhere near it. I heard that some get 30-33 mpg, wtf???

I commute 50/50 local and highways about 8-10 miles to work and then about 7 miles from work to school and its also 50/50 local and highway. By the time I fill up my tank by gas mileage is about 21-22 mpg. I have a semi heavy foot on the gas peddle but I rarely red line.

ok so, for a while now I was thinking that I have a heavy foot thats why my mpg is bad but until I took the car on a road trip to vegas and frisco and got only 25mpg avg. On the way to frisco was better at 26 mpg. I know it was not heavy foot because I had it on cruise control at 74-77 mph. I also tested without cruise control and got about the same mpg around 24-25 mpg.

So what is wrong with my gas mileage? How can I improve my mpg?

I really love this car but I really want to sell it because of the gas mileage. I rather drive an V6 with mpg like what I am getting. My previous car was a 350z and I used to get 20mpg, I rather drive that since the mpg isn't much difference.

75 mph isn't going to get you good gas mileage. those ratings are based off 60-65 mph. try that.

[QUOTE=criminaltc;3882099]75 mph isn't going to get you good gas mileage. those ratings are based off 60-65 mph. try that.[/QU! Who's gonna drive 65mph on a 400 mile trip? Gonna take me forever to get there. I'm going to Vegas soon, so ill try 65 to 70mph and see what I get.

I get roughly 325 miles to my tank...I fill up weekly as I commute 32 miles each way to work which totally about 320 a week....all highway driving and I cruise it at about 67mph everyday... I range about 25-28 mpg nothing more that I can tell....also one thing to consider about your commute is not only speed but the weight you are lugging around in your car I take it your making a 400 mile trip you gonna have luggage passengers etc etc...yeah all that factors to the mpg...just things to keep in mind...

My last two fills were both 27.8 MPG hand calculated (over 300mi each) with college town summer driving and no highway, but a fair amount of lights and rush hour(s) traffic. I generally drive for MPG.

I've gotten 300mi-330mi to a tank with 50/50 Highway/City Traffic.

Which is good enough for me - Tank costs $50 (CAD) to fill SMH

26-27mpg overall in my 2010 5-speed. Mostly city stop and go...some freeway. Los Angeles area. I like to shift at about 3k rpm...no higher than 3500. On a recent drive to Vegas I got 32mpg doin 75. Oh and I run Toyota 0W20 oil if it means anything.

I usually get around 25.5-26.5 MPG. Last time I took a road trip, I managed to get it up to 30 MPG (the trip computer read around 32-33.5 MPG but I calculated it by hand and got 30 MPG) but I was in no hurry and was crusing around 69, I specifically set the cruise control to 69 because it entertains me the whole way. As for oil, I run Mobil 0W20.

It's also going to depend on your tires & wheels. When I got rid of the 16" steelies & OEM tires my mileage dropped by about 10%, and I drive about 90% freeway. In pure city driving my mpg drops by more than 20% compared to before the + size tires & wheels. I'm guessing your TRD 19's have something to do with it.

On a recent 300-ish mile round trip I made, I got about 28 mpg's.

Although usually I do get around 25-26 mpgs driving mainly streets with a little bit of freeway included.

i didnt even think about that because right when i put them back on i noticed. Makes a lot of sense. Especially since i was at a lower RPM driving in town and through the gears on the steelies. Didnt even click until now.

Canadian dollars have a lower exchange rate than US dollars.

Well, last summer I was getting about 2 MPG better than this summer. My interpretation is my last year's performance mods are taking their toll. Unutilized performance mods shouldn't cost you, but I know darned fine I'm using mine regularly, even though it's not by intention!

In the summer I have 27-27.5 MPG calculated by hand, see 29.5-30 on the readout in the dash. Then again, I have an 8 mile 55-60 mph drive to work with a couple stoplights. How you accelerate and how often you use cruise control makes a big difference as well.
