Going HID? Questions!

Im really new to this stuff and just want to know, has anybody had any legal trouble since they have installed the kits? If I buy the kit I plan to get Mobile HID 4300K, and ensure the beam and all is adjusted correctly to how it is now.. How much should I worry about the cops pulling me over?

That is my only concern with the whole deal. My insurance skyrockets if I just get one ticket so I really can't push my luck. But the thought of having that type of light makes me crave this this thing... I just figure by staying at 4300K I get the best light and since its not crazy blue or anything I should not attract that much attention. What do you think?

Thanks!

get 5000K for best light output. its like an LED white. i dont know how it is in ohio, but u shouldn't get much cop trouble for headlights. and dont worry about headlamp adjustment. they should be fine the way they came from factory.

CIONIDE 01-03-2008 05:41 AM

Not legal, and projector beam cutoff is not designed for HID bulbs,
but if you keep them aimed low enough you should be OK.

Disclaimer: If you get a ticket; I don't know you, and I'm not paying for it...
Good luck! Many many owners have them & love them.

I thought 5000K at first, but found 4300K offers the best light output, not 5000K. Once you go to 5000K you loose lumans with the gain of blue tint. At least from what I have read, haha.

I have the 5000k and have not received even a second glance from any officers of the law. I have driven mine in WI, IL, IA, NE, CO, KS, OK and MO with them installed. You should be even less noticeable with the 4300k lights.

If you recall from an earlier thread on headlight adjustment that we both posted in, I adjusted mine due to the TRD spring install, but I did not need any adjustment for just the Mobile HID install. BTW, I have had mine since May without any issues.

Hope that helps.

Sorry to intrude. But, I just Install 8000k HID Kit in my Box. They are Great! I can see 3x further to spot Road Hazards.

This shot was during the day. A bit of warning the 8000k are quite Blue.
10,000K is Deep Blue. You don't want that. The cops can hit you with trying to Impersonate a Police Officer.
The 12,000k is Purple. The 14,000k is Deep Purple and does not offer enough lumens. The Lumens drop off the higher you go.
As a guage Bimmers, Mercedes, Lexus have 4300k as factory HIDS. It is White.
5000k is Brighter White. 6000K is White-Blue. 8000k is Blue. If I get hit with a ticket, I will have to just get 5000k or 6000k bulbs.
You need a Vendor that supply a relay harness
or risk frying your OEM harness. I went with MobileHID. Cliff is a Sponsor seller and will give SL members a discount.

Thanks for the input!

I placed my order for the 4300K kit with MobileHID a few minutes ago. I can't wait to install them when they arrive!

evosky 01-03-2008 02:11 PM

yup, 4300K is OEM color-ish. it should be a pure white. Once you go above that, the lumen-color ratio isn't so good, so you lost light output. however, since they are HID's the output even at 10000K is still more than a standard halogen.
i went with 6000K, and the light output is great, and i don't sacrifice almost any really noticeable amount of output versus the 4300K

AAG 01-03-2008 02:12 PM

MR_LUV I dont know how you can see with 8000k that is waaaay too blue. My bro had them on his ride (civic) and I wanted to punch him for having such annoying hids.

For non-projected headlights 6000k is the max and 5000k for projected ones (like I have). To the OP good choice going with Mobile HID! I got the sames ones and they are great! I do wish I went with 4300k though..........5000k look great at first but when they break in they are a tad too blue for my taste.

AAG 01-03-2008 02:15 PM

[quote="however, since they are HID's the output even at 10000K is still more than a standard halogen.[/quote]

That is incorrect, 10000k has little useable light output.

Funny question,

How do I remove the cover on the (+) side of the battery, that red cover?

AAG 01-03-2008 04:50 PM

I believe it just prys up but I can't remember exactly off the top of my head. You do mean the cover that protects the terminals right?

Invertalon 01-03-2008 04:55 PM

Yes, covering the positive terminal.

bugtoxb 01-03-2008 05:00 PM

i have the 5000k mobile hid's and i havent been even looked at twice either, I live in upstate ny. besides being that it is a new car and the styling looks new i dont think u will have anythign to worry about, i mean there are many cars coming with hid's factory....

The Red Cover is Hinged and you just pull up on it.
You do want to connect Red to + Terminal and Black to - Terminal like so:

I don't think you will have any problem at all.
Just glance over on the other side of the freeway.
Virtually all the Bimmers, Mercedes, and Lexus now have 4300k HIDS as standard.
The only difference is they paid a lot more because it was priced with their cars.

I was in San Francisco recently and across on the other side of the traffic light
was a Bimmer with his HIDS on. When the light turn Green he almost had a
Whiplash from staring at my HIDS the whole time!

Anyone ask, tell them it's a Factory Option.

Thanks for all the info LUV!

Can't wait to get the kit. I actually am getting the 5000K instead of 4300K due to availability. MobileHID contacted me and said they had all but the 4300K in stock in H11, so im settling for the 5000K. Was my second choice so not a problem.

the wait begins!

uberspeed 01-04-2008 10:14 PM

Wait it out, get the 4300K. Get all the lumens you can for your money.

CIONIDE 01-05-2008 12:16 AM

^ Yeh, what he said!

uberspeed 01-06-2008 06:51 AM
