Default Injector service needed at 20K miles?!?!

Dropped off my 2010 xB for it's 20K service at the dealer and the service adviser called back and said that I need to have my injectors cleaned and it'll cost $149.

Is this normal?!? Is this something I need done so "soon?"

I've never had a car that required me to do this at the 20K mark.

Typical dealer trying to sell you services that are good, but you don't need (yet). Refer to your service manual for proper service items and intervals.

Thanks guys... I thought it seemed a bit odd to have that "needed" at only 20K miles.

Injector service is something like this...you bend over, and the dealership injects you from behind and you pay them $150. Just run some fuel system cleaner through the gas tank every oil change.

Got it back from the dealer last night right before they closed and I noticed that the car "pulls" to the right now and the steering wheel is off-center.

I took it back this morning and they say I "hit a pothole" so that's why the alignment's off. I told him that was complete BS and also that the car drove PERFECTLY straight before I dropped it off yesterday. He said they rotated the tires back to the original positions they were at when I dropped the car off and the car still "pulls" to the right, so it's obvious that I hit a pothole.

I argued back & fourth with the guy and the best they could do after I spoke the service department manager was give me a slight discount on the alignment.

SOOOOOOOO ridiculous.

Did you check the air pressure in the tires? When the dealer would rotate my tires under the "free" stuff when I bought it, the tire pressure wasn't even close.

Interesting, when I took my xb in for another recall last month I noticed that they check every car that comes in for alignment problems. They attach some gizmo to the wheels and a lazer does a quick scan.

The dealer is there to take your money for stuff you need and stuff you don't. That's business in America.

Yup, when I got home I checked the pressure in all four tires and they were perfect.

Call Scion directly... Email them, whatever. They will take care of you. Explain exactly what you had done there and what went on after.

Most likely they will write you a check for the alignment you had paid for and cover it. If you have a good case.

They have taken care of me twice now with out of warranty repairs... One being a $1400 airbag harness.

Sounds like a valid reason to change dealerships or start to DIY

After a quick phone call to the service department manager, he apologized to me and said: 1) I never should have been told that I'd have to pay for an alignment and 2) They never should have implied that it was my fault because the car drove perfectly fine before they had it.

Whoo-Hoo!
