Italian site says Scion to replace xA, xB

This is the first I'm hearing about a replacement for the xB, but then I've been out of the country (and admittedly not up on all the news). Anybody out there know anything and can shed some more light on this?

Scion, from Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A. Inc., will launch two new vehicles in spring 2007 to replace current generation xA and xB.

"The xA and xB will always be very special models for us and have contributed greatly to Scion''s success, but we''re ready to move into our next product phase," said Mark Templin, vice president, Scion. "Scion is a laboratory for change and we will continue to experiment and evolve to meet the needs of our customers."

xA and xB launched in California in June 2003 and completed their nationwide rollout in June 2004. Since their launch 72,011 xA''s and 139,091 xB''s have been sold nationwide through July 2006.

Production of the 2006 xA and xB will conclude in December of this year. The two all-new vehicles will be designated as 2008 models when they arrive at Scion dealerships next year.

Dude, we will always have an xB in our lineup - I didn't say that it would be the SAME xB, but it will be an xB nonetheless.

Scion xB 2nd-Gen Rumors

:nails: :( I was just shown the article that the xB is on the way out. Why? GM did this to me with my '78 Monza, now Toyota is doing it with my 2006 xB. This sucks! I brought my Envy Green home this past May. Now it's soon to be obsolete. I would have liked to have made all the payments first! They sucked me in with their special color offers (I love orange and yellow, but green is my favorite color of the three); I was so-oo proud to drive the car. Now what?[img][/img]

JUMBO 09-16-2006 12:07 AM

First off, the xB is CHANGING - not going away.

And it's NOT obsolete - it's even MORE limited now. Look at it that way.

I think it's a mistake for Scion to get rid of the xB.....

....in a sense it is there "flag ship" and is the most popular and most recognizable of their cars..a cult favorite and a model that people love to tweak....it is easy to customize due to the model design that makes it easy to modify.....

...Scion would of done much better to bring in the new design while still offering the original xb...I think they would of been surprised at how well the 1st gen xb would still sell.........unless they were worried that offering the original xb would hurt the sales of the next gen??

The xB is the 21st centurys VW bug ... and it is to early to discontinue the model.....

......you Scion dealers know that each year more xBs are sold than the year before...that's like dumping a stock while it's value is going up...

...I hear peeps say that the xb is "changing" but that will kill it...people like it due to the current design and the gen 2 will not be "The Box" that people have come to really love....it wasn't really broke, there was no need to "fix" it

I agree with a lot you say--will hold final judgement until I see the replacement. I realy like your analogy of a 21st Century bug---very similar in many ways (except shape of course).

Why get rid of a good thing? I am glad that the value of my xB will hopefully go up since it will be considered "limited" in a few years. My Scion salesman told me that they will probably come out with something similar to the xB in 2008, but it won't have the xB name.

TuningIsLife 09-27-2006 05:34 PM

Its going to be a small SUV but nothing "similar" to an xB, will be closer to the the Scion concept t2B. Spring/Summer 2007 as a 2008.

Scion's value will not increase, but they will also no decrease at a high rate, they will maintain value.
the Residual Value on an auto xB over 2 years is rated at $9,000 (58%), 5 years at standard milage is still $5,500. 35% of what you paid for it after 5 years. Rather good if you consider a Chevy HHR is 42% after 2 years and 29% after 5 years as listed by ALG.

edit: Cars.com has the RV on a 2006 xB for 2 years as 66% and 5 years as 39%
