Default Loud whirring noise when I turn on the heater

I just very recently purchased a 2008 xb. The A/C works fine as far as temperature and fan goes, but the moment I switch from cool to heat I get a whirring noise. It reaches different pitches depending on how hot or cold it's set to. Is this an electrical issue? I want to know if I can easily fix it myself before bringing it into the shop.

*Edit* The sound is coming from the passenger side behind the glove box (where the cabin fan is located).

Most likely leaves in the fan chamber. Pull the glove box out then pull the cabin air filter behind it and look in the fan chamber to see if there is something in there.

For some reason, straw wrappers love to get in there every year or so... makes that exact noise.

The air filter was SO nasty, so I put a fresh one in there. It still seems to be making the noise though. I couldn't see anything else in there, but it's also at a very strange angle. Is it pretty easy to dismount to do a further inspection and cleaning?

Dealership found leaves in mine. Service guy had small hands and was able to feel around and found them. I agree, odd angle. Or if you have a buddy with a Snake Cam. Small camera mounted on the end of a flexible cable with a display on the handle end. Harbor Freight has them on sale for under $100. Come in handy some times.

Or you could always just remove the 3 screws holding in the fan and look at it for free...

Just the 3 screws? I can do that no problem! I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some crazy mechanism before attempting. I've faced that issue before in a Chevy Aveo, where there was 20 additional components that you needed to disconnect before accessing anything.

Thank you all for your help. I will update as soon as I dig through it and clean it up.
