I am at 10,700 or so miles on my 2 year old 2013 xb and i love it - no issues or anything like that. the reason i wanted another xb (a 2015) is just so i could have a backup after my 2013 one dies :D I made the mistake of selling my 2006 and i plan to not make that mistake again with my 2013

so far i seem to understand they are based off the Mazda 2 which I had the pleasure of driving and hated as well as they both remind me of the prius or camry although I don't mind the looks of the camry. I shall miss the box no matter and makes me want to hold on to my Gen one XB as long as i can

xB2 2 iNfinity?
I guess Scion thinks it's a great idea to keep the xB2 around because it's so closely identified with their brand. The flagship, if you will. The xB2 may not be as popular as the xB1 but still, you see them everywhere on the road and they look different enough to cause people to think "man, I might buy one of those".
How many average joe's out there know what a FR-S or TC or xA is?

I saw this as well. The IM is a corolla hatchback, which is needed as an alternative to the sedan, but it doesn't have nearly the cargo capacity as the xB.
I can put my mountain bike in the back without removing the front wheel, that's one of the reasons that I bought it. The xB's cargo hold is just 3 cubic feet less than the RAV4, and 1 cubic foot less than the Honda CRV, and it costs about 8K less.

re: cargo space, maybe the xb was taking away from sales of other (more expensive) toyota models and that's why they killed it...? like they were selling too much car for the price? thats what it sounds like to me... sales of the more expensive cars were being cannibalized.
this news really sucks and i agree that the im is not a successor to the xb, it's the replacement.

Here's a review of the IM:
2016 Scion iM First Drive
One thing that struck me is that the IM has the 1.8 liter 4 and it weighs 2960 lbs. That's a pretty heavy vehicle for that size engine. I loved my 2003 Corolla (curb weight 2502 lbs) and it had sufficient power most of the time with the 5 speed manual, but in the summertime I would turn the A/C off when merging in traffic because it sapped the power from the engine. That's why I like the xB's 2.4 liter engine, no lag at all.

^^ that's a good read, thanks for the link.
regarding weight, the gen 1 xb's were ~2500 lbs, 106hp. so the im is ~500lbs more but also comes with ~30hp more.
even with the weight, it gets est 37 mpg which is roughly what i got with my gen1 xb. that's what i loved about the first xb. the im looks amazing on paper. would love to test drive one but still sad the xb's are dead! im going to hold onto my 2013 forever! =P

Maybe but haven't the xB's been in a sales slump for many years? I think the xB was kept around to keep the Scion brand alive during the recession. Now that car sales in the U.S. are exploding Scion is now coming out with the iM and iA and possibly another model later this year or next. They are heavily targeting millenials but I think Murtha and Co. are going to be surprised how few cars they will continue to NOT sell.

About the bad Xb2 fuel economy I don't know why Toyota don't simply put the engine avalaible in the Rumion ( xb2 domestic name ) Maybe cause japenese people weight less than american one .And maybe cause here in america horse power rule , simply look at all the thread here about turbo , supercharger , air flow, etc . The following review is from a Japenese car exporter ;
'' All modifications are Toyota Corolla Rumion gasoline. Under the hood, the most popular of them is the 1.8- liter engine with 136 horsepower, which works with the CVT gearbox and four-wheel drive. In combined cycle car consumes 6.7 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. More modest modification of the engine is equipped with a volume of 1.5 liters capacity of 110 horsepower, “CVT” and front wheel drive. The unusual design of the exterior, comfortable interior and attractive specifications Toyota Corolla Rumion 2014 received positive reviews from leading automotive experts. ''
I think when they talk about '' modifications '' it's simply mean models or version .
The 1.8 with the cvt is allready in use in the last gen american Corolla . And yes when the review talk about the 1.5 liter engine , is for the xb2 not the xb1 (or the Bb ) who are still avalaible in their domestic market .

I just leased done, I hope all the bugs have been worked out. To be honest, I wanted an Element but that was discontinued a couple years back.
Yes the XB is long in the tooth but there just aren't very many basic dirt simple SUVish type vehicles out there as roomy. I like my cars simple, if I could have gotten crank windows, I would have chosen that. The XB is about as simple as cars come these days. If they could price the XB in the $14-$16K bracket I think it would get to be a really hot seller. A Versa/Sentra or XB...the XB of course. The other option that could of saved the XB was go for the Diesel nuts, a 2L turbo diesel at $20-22 would be killer. VW seems to sell a crap load of TDIs. Scion would be a great mark to do sporty diesels and not damage the Green Prius image. Not to mention the box getting 35mpg in the city would not hurt.
The IA reminds of the Mitsubishi Lancer and the IM is just a Matrix, I don't see them doing much for the Scion Brand.
