I've had a similar problem, but each time the lights came on I noticed an immediate loss of power. Taking it to the dealer they tell me it misfired and have replaced the B coil pack. I have it replaced 3 times now and the last time they replaced the A and B coil pack. Only 3k left on my warranty, hopefully its fixed...

Got one today.... fun time sitting in toyota for a part they need to order...

dammit mine just went off.. it sputters but still runs.. you drive it for a while and it runs like normal again and the lights sometimes goes off.

Ouch :(!
|
put my scanner on.... say coil pack 1
|
Many have had the coil pack code come up, but the final solution ended up being the wiring harness replacement. :tap:

That is one of the codes I got. How many miles are on your car? Contact your dealer like I did. Lets see if we get the same answers. Do not reset the code, they need the light on when they run the codes. edit: Looks like you have posted there already but here is the link to my thread. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=199088 |
OK i had my forjworks billet coilpack cover prototype on.. I guess its not spaced high enough and metal was sitting on the plug to the coil pack.. i took of the coil pack cover and and light went off and cars been runnning fine for the past 2 days

8tracks, you & I have some same issues.
Here's the history on my car. 2008 xB purchased 02-13-2008 – (VIN earlier than 91067111) 04-30-09 - 16,816 miles; Replaced Engine Wiring Harness per TSB Part#82121-12510 Switched coils 1&3. 06-19-09 – 17,104 miles; Code PO351 Replaced Coil #1 Part# 90919-A2001 09-15-09 - 23,727miles; Code PO351 Replaced Coil#1 Part#90919-A2001 01-06-10 – 25,512 miles; Code CO210 Replaced Right Rear Wiring Harness/Skid Control and Hub & Brake Assembly. Wire Part#89516-12051 Hub Part# 42450-12090 05-15-11 – 39,644 out of warranty Code PO354 Replaced Coil #? Part#90919-A2001 So mine is 3 coils & counting... to the tune of $307.44 each at dealer now. Mine are still going bad after the harness replacement. Thanks for your experiences. I'll approach the dealer on this first before going to Toyota Corp. |

does anyone know what the actual issue with the wiring harness is? Does this issue definately fall under the 3/36k warranty or is it covered longer. Just seems like a pretty big issue for Toyota to just be basically screwing us. Its happened to me since about the 35k mark. at first it would go maybe months before it would repeat. Now basically it does it after engine bay gets hot or if i crank vehicle twice in a short period of time. Any info from a scion or toyota tech would be great.

Is there no techs in this forum that can explain this problem to me. My car is totally out of comission due to a P0301 ign coil code. I am still paying for 3 more years and cant drive my car.
Once my xb gets warm it trips the CEL and traction control and I cant drive it. My warranty is evidently expired and Im no in a position to pay for a wiring harness. I am in school to be a tech but I dont have access to wiring diagrams to show me where to start. If someone could explain whats happening I could possibly replace the defective wire or install the harness myself. Ive read the problem may lye in poor conections it seems this issue could be resolved without replacing the entire harness. Please help! |
If I replace just the coil does anyone know if it will allow me to drive the car for any significant amount of time or will it just start doing it again immediately.? My VIN is 81046324 so its definately prolly defective harness.
Does anyone know where I can get a wiring harness wiring diagram to attempt to fix this issue myself. Like I said earlier at first issue happened months apart now its daily. I dont understand what in the harness could be casing this and get worse as time passed. Is it a short to ground or an open or High resistance in a wire. sorry for bugging yall but im desperate to drive my car. |
my work computer doesnt have adobe so i cant save it as a PDF but i printed it out and took a pic of the main engine harness. Im almost off and then ill be home ill PM it to you.

I'm off of warranty by about a year and 2,000 miles. About a month ago, my xB began having an uneven idle and major loss of power. The dealer said it was the wire harness. I've contacted my local dealer and Scion Customer Care. They've agreed to reduce the cost of the repair to $500. I still think that's too much if this is a known issue that is happening to so many people.

I know my car falls under this VIN range for the engine harness... Something I expect down the road... (Isn't that sad?).
I am at 70K and still nothing (knock on wood). I did have my ABS/Trac/ESC lights come on one time, but I cleaned the contacts on the rear speed sensor clips and it went away and never came back. I plan to take more precautions this winter to avoid salt from destroying them more. Never had the CEL though. Right now I am fighting with the SRS light... Taking to dealer next tuesday to replace the entire airbag harness. $1185 repair. Toyota is covering half (so far, trying to get more) and will cost me $600+tax. Scion Corp is supposed to call em back tomorrow regarding my case and if they will cover even more. What is with all these dang faulty harnesses in this car? Seriously! |
Probably made in China like everything else now days.

Its crazy tosee how many issues there have been with these XB's. There should be some kind of recall. I just bought this 2008 xb and found issues with these codes P0778, C1201, C1241 with loss of power when taking off and a hesitation when shifting sometimes. The dealer wants to replace the whole wire harness and solenoid b $1687.40. I was thinking of starting with my plugs and coils. Another mechanic said he would diagnose and just replace the shorted wires. I'm sorta ____ed but I need this vehicle.

After my 08' XB started running hard the other day, intermittently misfiring, with the Check engine light on, I took it to Auto Zone to read the codes. The VSC off, and traction control lights were also on. This is what came up: P0353 -Ignition Coil C Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction P0351 -Ignition Coil A Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction A friend of a friend replaced the spark plugs with new iridium plugs and reset the codes. Three days and 150 miles later, all of the same lights reappeared. (VSC off, Engine light, traction control light) However, at the time, it didn't seem to be misfiring or running any differently. I then took it to Advanced to see what codes would appear. This is what it read: C0205 - Left front speed sensor C0210 - Right rear speed sensor C1201 - Engine control system malfunction C1238 - Foreign object iis attached on tip of right rear speed sensor C1241 - Low or high power supply voltage P0353 - Ignition coil "C" primary/Secondary circuit malfunction After some research, I found that Toyota was offering a limited Service campaign "B0K" with an expiration of 10/31/2014. I was never notified about this issue. I've received other recall information by mail concerning the power windows, but received nothing concerning this coil replacement campaign. Am I SOL? It's Sunday and I'm trying to brainstorm ideas before contacting Scion's Customer Service on Monday. Any help would be appreciated. |

Could this be a harness issue?
I ended up having an electrical diagnosis done by a guy that does electrical trouble shooting. He found it to be the transmission internal wire which would have never detected by Toyota, as well as the shift solenoid 2. Once he diagnosed the problem, I took it to a mechanic that only did transmissions. Have not had a problem since. I hope this help. Good luck! |
