TRD Shifter Question (Funny Ebay Listing)
 

I was actually considering picking one of these up and wondered if anyone has tried one and their results. I didn't even notice the title until after...

So many people have experienced dissatisfaction with that mod, I'm not clear it deserves additional advertising :(! Still, I guess it's ultimately a question of what works for you :)!

Good for you, but that's not what I've read :)! My reading is of increased notchiness and higher revs required to get any kind of clean manual shifts.

When I picked up my 90k mile '08 xB, the shifter action was pretty sloppy with long throws compared to my old Miata, Integra and S2000. After doing some research I bought a set of Corsport aluminum bushings. The old rubber bushings had too much play in the shifter, even when in gear. The new aluminum bushings eliminated a large portion of that play and gave a nice little clunk when you selected a gear.

Next problem to tackle was the really long throw action of the shifter. Again, after some research, I decided to try the Axxtion quickshifter. Installation was very easy and they claimed to reduce throw action by 54%. I believe it too, because it was now a crazy short throw into gear. The 1-2 and 3-4 shifts were great with almost as little travel as an S2K, but the 2-3 and 4-5 shifts sucked! It's a little hard to describe, but imagine the fore and aft throws waay reduced, but the left and right action remaining about the same. The "pathway" into gear was vague and imo, required too much effort for a smooth shift, especially when you're getting into the accelerator.

Returned it and bought a TRD short throw shifter. Installation was a lot harder and took a lot longer (compared to the Axxtion), but in the end I am very pleased. Overall shift throw is reduced from OEM, but not as aggressive as the Axxtion. Combine it with the aluminum bushing and I feel like this is the way the car should have come from the factory. Even my wife likes this much better.

Ymmv, but the TRD is the way to go. I've driven and owned enough "good" manual transmissions to know what I'm talking about. To be honest though, my beater '96 Integra with 337,000 miles still has a better manual shift action...

That's great, but if you do a serious thread search, there are far too many people who have started off liking the TRD Short Shifter and later sold it. However, if it starts and remains a winner for you or yours, there's surely nothing to complain about :)!

One reason I may not have a problem with the "notchiness", I have a blox 490g shift knob. shifts like butter though:D.
