xB2 Service Manual

Anyone know where I can get a copy of a service manual for the xB2? If you know what I'm talking about, the manual goes into lots of detail on how to do regular maintenance on your car, ie tools required, torq. specs, difficulty ratings, etc. and it will be more than just oil changes =P

Knowing where to order/buy the manual would be great, along with reviews.

The legit place to get either printed repair manuals or electronic versions is http://techinfo.toyota.com/

The new incarnation of this site is set up to work with MS operating systems only, so I no longer have access (I'm Mac) and do not know the details of how their new structure works.

The manuals there are the official Toyota produced manuals, and are the same as the ones the dealerships get.

Nothing better.

Good luck!

slowdalpangee 01-16-2009 06:06 PM

have u seen how much the subscription is... not worth it.

cTek 01-16-2009 07:19 PM

im talking about buying the actual shop manual, not subscribing to an online database. anyone have experience?

slowdalpangee 01-16-2009 08:34 PM

Son of BiZzzzz.. I just called TIS and asked for a price quote for manuals, NOT cool:

Repair Manual: $316.49
EWB: $67.37

WTH's up with this.... not cool at all

buickid 01-16-2009 08:38 PM

Thats about right. My father bought the FSM for his Ford Ranger and it was around there, and had two large dictionary sized books.

Tomas 01-16-2009 08:45 PM

Yup.

Factory manuals are NEVER cheap.

Still, though, that's more than the xB Classic manuals which ran about half that IIRC.

slowdalpangee 01-16-2009 09:27 PM

man.. that is insane! then again... if it's basically for dealer use, i suppose it's reasonable.

any link to a cheaper, almost as good, alternative?

If anyone is still looking for a scion repair manual I see that Helm is now selling them. $210 for the 3 volume set - not cheap!!!:eyes:

I got a set for our Honda accord thru them, that was a much more cost effective manual set.

Chilton has online access for $20/year, but they only show a 2008 Xb - that is the Gen 2 right? 2008 and on?

FWIW -- I just finished uploading (45 minutes :() a pile of 2008 xB tech info to FileFactory.com. It consists of a stack of info that was circulating earlier, plus more files I obtained myself. It should also be good for the 2009 and 2010 (except for some radio details). Here are links for the documentation and also the free .7z unzip utility (windows compatible).

Download 2008xBschematicsEtc.7z from FileFactory.com

Download 7zipfree_8675.exe from FileFactory.com

Hope you guys find it useful -- sure helped me :)!

EDIT -- In order to assist with opening the archive file, I've just uploaded an instruction sheet. Hopefully that will make life easier for people :).

Download 7zUnpackInstructions.txt from FileFactory.com

Well, I downloaded this link...
Download 7zipfree_8675.exe from FileFactory.com

Then downloaded this file....
Download 2008xBschematicsEtc.7z from FileFactory.com

But nothig will open and I got a TROJEN warning from my security program. Any other options for access?

Tomas 01-10-2010 12:41 AM

Too bad it's in a proprietary Windows Only format...

RC-PILOT 01-10-2010 02:19 AM

Is this a Windows 7 thing? Not on 7. Hmmm....

Needless to say, the .7z file requires the .7z unpack routine to unpack. I'm just checking the download myself, but the site is reputable and I specifically checked the files before performing the upload. My best guess is that your Trojen warning is ill-advised. You don't say which file you got the warning on, so here is the site for downloading the .7z unpacker:

I was just trying to make it easy.

I'm running XP, but the unpack utility is supported by a number of Windows versions.

I haven't been able to identify any problems with the files I uploaded. So, they either help you or they don't, I think I'm done for now!

Good luck, gang!

PS. The specific files for the 2009 and 2010 radio are in the package -- forgot I'd grabbed them. So, all three years are definitely covered.

Not proprietary from what I google on the net.

Also, it appears WineHQ supports the utility I linked.

EDIT: This site provides a MAC OS-X compatible utlity -- I don't have a MAC and so I can't test it.

TrevorS I was able to figure out why the files were not working. Took a while to figure out, but I got them.

WOW! That's a lot of really good information. Thanks. I feel like I can do a whole bunch of stuff now that I couldn't do before because I didn't know how to get there from here. Big help. Thanks again.

Chuck

TrevorS 01-10-2010 09:34 PM

That's great Chuck, glad you got it sorted out. I can see I should have provided an instruction sheet, so I've just uploaded one. Hopefully, it makes access a bit easier for others.

Download 7zUnpackInstructions.txt from FileFactory.com

I've also edited the link into my earlier file link post.
