Default Driver Side 1" Lower than Passanger Side, Why?

Hi All,

After about 22k miles and 1.25 years of driving my '09 xB, I just noticed that the ride height is unlevel. The rear passenger side is noticably higher than the driver side. In fact, after measuring, I noted about 1" of ride height difference, even when the car is empty/unloaded, full or empty tank of gas.

I've tried using the search function, but the function on this website sucks.

Can anyone comment on this and/or help me out? I've never tracked my car, nor do I treat the road like the track. All the driving experience on the car is "regular" city and highway, no offroad or anything like that.

An obvious question I should have answered ahead of time... yes I'm on stock suspension... 100% =)

Another thing, I wanted to see if there's a quick fix before seeking stealership assistance.

I had the un-evenness problem only after installing lowering springs. Rotated the right one and now it's more or less even.

anyone know what i can check to help troubleshoot?

i guess i can check the placing of the rear spring... but i don't understand how that would be incorrectly seated over time

I see that problem on a lot of BMW's, I honestly don't know what it could be. I just wanted to comment that I've seen it on BMW's.

Other than uneven cargo loading capacities or a sumo wrestler driver, I don't know what else. (No pun intended)

Considering there is weight more often on the driver side rather than the passenger side, the driver's side will be lower, although an inch might be a little bit too much.

if i'm in the car, i expect the driver side to be lower.. especially with a softer suspension car like the xB2.

however, my measurements were when i was not in the car (obviously), and do not have any uneven cargo in the car. additionally, even tho i thikn the gas tank's located longitudinally in the center of the car, i still measured it with empty and full tank... same results.

I guess there's no simple solution.. and i htink the stealership may have to look at it fo rme... bummer

could it possibly have to do with driving habit? altho i do make more right turns, and harder turns going right than left, this would cause some additional stress/compression on the driver side suspension.... although, i'd find it pretty pathetic that this would cause the driver side to be lower. it's not like i tracked the car on a circuit going clockwise.

I don't think it's anything you've done, that's just the nature of the beast. I think you could take this time, if you have the money, to go low!

After all this talk, I'm about to go and check on my Gen 2 too.

I have a simple explanation. The stock suspension is not built to compensate for the extra weight the the transmission puts on the driver's side.

In other words, the stock springs and shocks are equal spec for the left and right side. The weight of the car, however, is not.

hmm, that is a simple explanation, and yes, that would make sense, but i can't say I agree.

Wouldn't that suggest that ALL the xB's at the docks and at the dealers come stock with a lower driverside than passanger side? If so, this would be really bad for scion, and would be unexpected.

Also, how heavy is the transmission, and how off center is it to the point where it causes a 1" drop on one side? If i remember correctly, the transmission is only slightly off centered, meaning the tranny's got to weigh a ton to pull the car down on at that angle.

BTW, what's your avatar? is that a asian lamp thing? ... for sure, i know that's a girl holding up that lamp.. based on the.. uh... "shadow". ;D

It sounds to me like might have a blown Strut Shock. I ran into the same problem, Take it to the dealer and have them replace it. you should still be covered under the manufactures warranty.

I had the same problem with mine.
