New shocks
Whats up everyone?
Just looking for opinions on replacing shocks/struts. My 2010 has been on TRD springs/oem shocks since it had about 600 miles on odo. It currently has ~48k and although shocks/struts dont feel blown or anything, the ride is just too bouncy. I recently put some matte black trd 19s w/ Toyo Proxes and can tell the shocks can't keep up with the extra weight.
Would I be better off going with TRD shocks/struts or Tokico for the best dampening with the TRD springs/wheels? I prefer a controlled/non bouncy ride. It feels like it pogos too much right now. Thanks for any info.

TRD Shocks are the best OEM fit for your car...and since they already have the trd springs it will be a good fit. Tokicos might be a bit cheaper but either will solve your bouncing. OR you could go with a set of Raceland Coilovers for 379.99 and get new adjustable springs and shocks.

I also have the TRD lowering springs. I drive a very twisty road to work so I put on the TRD rear sway and strut tower brace. The car handles great, but like you said, it is a bit bouncy. I also get a bit of tire squeal around the sharp corners with the stock tires. I just ordered the TRD shocks and struts. I found them at trd sparks for $420, which is the lowest I've found so far. I'm going to be getting some stickier rubber next...

Hey if you got $$ to burn then get air...but in a real world your better off with Tocikos or Racelands...
1- Tociko: designed for performance and work well with lowered cars
2- Raceland: is also the same minded design and price is great...you have the ability to adjust the height if you want or need (con its not as easy as switches on air)
TRD is just overpriced in everything they have and I dont agree that TRD is any better than the other aftermarket parts out there (minus some ebay items..LOL)

Was it always bouncy? I'd say bouncy is a symptom of blown shocks. I have DF210's with stock shocks and the ride starting getting a little rough over the last few weeks. Pulled the rear shocks and they weren't blown, but I replaced the rear shocks with OEM anyway as I had a spare brand new set lying around. Its much better now, and the rear doesn't sag as much as before.

I installed them today and the car feels much tighter. I can't wait to hit the twisty route to work and fully test them out. When I pushed down on the stock shock and the TRD at the same time, the TRD popped up much faster. That tells me the rebound damping is quite a bit stiffer. Also if I had to guess, I'd say the compression damping is actually lighter than stock...
I also got my new tires and they feel way better than the stock Goodyears. I went with the Yokohama YK580's in size 215/55-16. My rims are Liquid Metal Static 16x7" and they fill the wheel well much better...

It's much better than it was with the stock shocks and struts. It absorbs the bumps much better and stays a bit flatter around corners. I can definitely feel a difference and I like it. My car only has 27,000 miles on it so I don't know if it's just because the TRD units are that much better, or because my stockers were wearing out. I also read that the TRD's are supposed to work better when you have the TRD springs like I do...
Another pic...(I installed everything myself so if anyone has any questions let me know)

Well I finally got around to buying and installing the TRD shocks/struts. All I can say is, I should have had these from the start. Corners flatter, more stable at speed, rides way better, no more annoying springy bouncing feel from the TRD springs. I feel the biggest change in the rear of the car. It no longer has the stiff springy up and down motions. It soaks up the bumps without much body movement. The car is much more enjoyable to drive now.
THanks everyone.

Hmm.
I always thought the horrible rear feel was attributed to the cheapo solid rear axle. This intrigues me. I'm planning on moving my car back up to stock height with stock springs and I'm trying to find the best way to maximize comfort. My back can't handle a jarring ride anymore, plus I want to put my five axis kit on and would hate to use it with little clearance.

It's been about 15k miles and I'll admit I wish I would have never forked out the $500 for these shocks/struts. This past weekend I took the rears off and put the stocks back on. So much better IMO. The rear of the car was too soft and twitchy with the TRDs, especially on dips on long sweeping turns. And also with passengers in the backseat, the rear end of the car would float up and down like an old caddy. Maybe I got a defective set of shocks, not sure, but I know the stocks ride and handle the rear of the car so much better. Maybe it has to do with the heavy TRD 19s who knows. As far as the fronts, I will run them for a while, not as noticeable as the rears were.

After about 2 months of trying finily got the Tokico rears, you can get them through Andy's autosport I must say with the TRD springs they are about 10 to 15% stiffer than stock rear shocks. Update after install s techs
UPDATE.. Tokico shock again where the wrong fitment, they sent xD shocks I'm back on the stock shocks with the s techs. Freaking ____ed about the rear shock issue.
