Need new tires for steelies
Winter is around the corner, my tires are bald and its time for new ones. Would 215/55/16 fit without rubbing or should I just stay with 205/55/16? Anybody running 225s on stock wheels? I have TRD lowering springs. Thanks

Cionide would know if a 225 would fit a 6.5" wheel for sure. for tires, check out the general gmax as-03's. Great warranty, and a price you can't really beat.

On TRD springs and OEM steelies, 215/55-16 will fit fine w/o rubbing, and so will 225/50-16. Personally I consider the 225's too wide for a 6.5" wheel, but I know some people do it.

Would the 225 stick out like this?

Poke + stretch = WIN.
I'd stick with the OEM sizing, really. No real reason to stray from that size with OEM wheels. Could increase contact patch, but no real need to. |
Tires that are too wide for the wheels will lead to roaming over rain grooves, and generally poor handling due to the extra sidewalls moving around under the weight of the car.

Oh I see. I'll toss the 225 out of the picture. Even though it will fit like you mentioned, would 215s be too wide for the 6.5 then?
Thanks everybody for clearing up my confusion. |
