Restoring TPMS
 

Hi everyone,

I don't have the original tires/wheels for my xB, and I'm looking at getting that back to stock for resale. Can someone comment on what would need to be done to restore TPMS functionality!

Do you still have the original TPMS sensors? If so all you have to do is mount them on your wheels and hit that button under the dash. Otherwise if you buy new or pre-owned sensors you will need to get them programmed by the dealer or tire shops.

All signs point to I had no idea there were TPMS sensors in the factory wheels/tires, and I'll need to do what you mentioned. Thanks for the reply.

... I had the wheels switched by the dealership right when I got the car. I can't imagine they went out of their way to swap the sensors for me.

Well if you TPMS light was on the whole time then they did not move the sensors to your new tires and wheels. If your light was off and functioning....then the sensors are there on you new wheels and will need to be removed and installed to the steelies.

Confused: If you switched wheels at the "dealership" why would they not swap over the sensors as well, If you dont have the (!) indicator lit on your dash then your sensors are on and functioning as needed but if you have the (!) then you need to get sensors on....

I only ask because I find it odd that they would just swap wheels/tires off stock wheels with sensors without advising you that you will need to swap the sensors or at least give you the sensors in hand

Its just a nice gesture to do for the next owner. Even then if there is a light on the dash some people like me will question it.

Only reason I would be remotely concerned with such a matter is if I were privately seeking it. If you're reading it in, let the dealer deal with it.

Yes, the reason I'm looking into it is because my tire pressure warning light is always illuminated. It doesn't bother me at all, but might make a difference to a buyer. I'm not too worried about it, I was just curious about some input. Sadly, not all dealers are attentive (or care) about little things like this. I didn't notice it until it was too late: the TPMS system didn't shoot an error message until I'd had the car for a little while.

From what I've been reading about the topic, the dealer would be in violation of federal law if he delivered the car to you with a non-working TPMS since one is original equipment.

Hey just put all the sensors into the spare tire and then inflate and you never have to worry after that and no more light.
