Haters need to chill. A 180+ HP xD (or any other Scion for that matter) is definitely worth the investment. Sure you could buy, say, a Civic Si or a Cobalt SS, but then you would just be one of the herd. I would much rather have the xD.

Let him go for it. If he can get 250 HP out of it, it will be the baddest grocery-getter on the street.

"haters"? seriously?

... "haters"... wow.

who here hates this person for wanting an engine swap?

now, who here thinks, in their opinion, spending 30K total on a 17K machine is a bit overboard, when you can go out and buy a wrx, or most of an s2000, or a cheap 350Z, or a supra.. or a 300zx, etc. etc. etc.....

that isn't "hating" someone. look it up in a dictionary. or if that's too advanced, use google ;)

I meant hating on the idea of it, not the person. Naysayer may have been a more accurate term.

Plus I think he's talking about something closer to $20K. And of course there are alot of great used cars in that range as well (like M3's and 350Z's...) But who cares. He wants to do something DIFFERENT.

Imagine if Carrol Shelby had listened to voices of dissent like yours...

"Imagine if Carrol Shelby had listened to voices of dissent like yours..."

You are comparing dropping a slightly larger engine in a FWD econobox to what Shelby has done? I'm not putting the guy down for doing it, it is his money, but don't compare things that don't make any sense.

my problem - no matter how powerful an engine is dropped, an xD will NEVER, and I repeat N-E-V-E-R be a sports car. to me, i fail to see the point in a full engine swap on a car with such frame and suspension characteristics as an econobox.

it is a free country though, so whatever makes you happy (as long as its street legal).

Um, ever heard of the Omni GLH-S? I imagine not.

And before there was FWD the platform was the original anemic AC Cobra, and look what that became.

You might want to stick to offroading sir.

good point bbc, id hate to embarrass the chump >:p

anyway, "boxer rebellion," i stick to my statement. mod up an xD engine and throw on any set of springs/shocks and compare it to an r34, z32, supra, etc. with the same mods and tell me which car is going to drive better.

no longer are the days where a 15k sport car can easily measure up to a 'true' sports car, such as the omni glh-s competed with that day's sports cars such as the vette.

so no, "sporting" out an xD with 20K of parts will NOT be more beneficial than buying an older, used sports car for 1/2 as much and using the money saved for mods and repairs. i dont care who you are, you can't honestly look at the frame, suspension components, and engine/transmission placement of an xD and expect to make an r34 out of it.

if your drive to be "different" is so powerful that you must drop a new engine in a new car, be my guest, it's your wallet. but make sure to go to the tracks and take on a 350z, vette, or select from a shlew of sports cars and tell me who wins, esp. around the corners.

better yet, wait a while and take it against a GT-R (r36), with videos. im dying to see one in action :: druuullz ::

Geez, read through my posts again.

I'm sure you can get a standalone ECU tuned, bolt on engine swap done for under $10,000, and get up to 190 whp NA on the stock cams if you wish by contaction the people I listed.

Boosting is where the costs will drive upwards of $20,000. People with Fits have gon through K20 swaps, it's not that stupid of an idea if you want a nice and different show car from the pack. A college kid here in the North East just custom widebodie'd his slow auto Celica GTS after much flaming, and now he'll be deep into the car show sceen with lots of sponsorships, INCLUDING TRD:

to each his own. if i were in the racing scene and needed sponsors, fine. but, xD = econobox. ill leave it at that.

but still, 27K for an xD at 190hp, seriously.. that can get you 2 Z32s w/ twin turbos + mods for both.

Guess what fellas. One of those engine swapping guru's I mentioned just picked up a xD for himself ;)

http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?t=257423

He was the guy that created a harness for us 03-05 drive by wire driven guys to run the Apexi Power FC standalone ECU that could only be used with the 00-02 vehicles.

Interesting in that thread you call the dissenters on this thread "grocery getters" when your guru's the one with the car seat in the back of his xD.

If it comes with a 1ZZ in it a 2ZZ swap could easily be done over a weekend for about $2500-$3000. It's been done in the MR-S dozens of times easily.
