2009 xD Engine Removal Help
Hello Gents,
I am long time Toyota enthusiast, focusing on building 4 Runners primarily for the past 15 years, but just came upon a 2009 Scion xD 5spd with a nuked motor, for a great price......FREE. Previous owner overheated it to the point of catastrophic failure. Had a mechanic scope one of the cylinders after a 0 psi compression test to report a broken piston. Anyway, I am not new to the world of engine swaps and rebuilds and am looking for some advise, help, tips, tricks and pics. I tried the search function to no avail. I am planning on buying a used 2ZR-FE to replace the failed one. Can anyone provide me with some tips and pics? I will be doing this swap in the coming Summer months as it warms up (working outside). Want to be fully prepared and researched up before I do the swap. I will not have access to a lift, and will be relying upon a cherry picker to pull the motor. From what I gather from looking through other threads , I will be pulling the front part of the car apart to get the engine out. Anyway, any and all help is much appreciated and in return I will document the process and provide a write up to pass along the experience in the hopes of helping other members. Thanks in advance!!!!

Get a Chilton guide online. Also, most of what works for a Yaris is the same for a Scion XD, so maybe a Yaris Haynes manual would be a good idea. Also, get a look at how far the windscreen goes over the motor to decide if your removal method will work-the spark plug holes are under the glass!
