Check Engine Indication

Check Engine Indication came on. A quick research in the xD manual revealed the best bet answer: loose fuel filler cap. Sure enough, it was. While re-fueling I had been interrupted briefly. I apparently did not give it the final twist for a click. The indicator went out after about 5 restarts.

pretty common on any vehicle produced around 1995 and up.

It's good to see someone figure that one out on their own instead of coming here to complain.

nothing against ya, but that's pretty common knowledge. at least in cars produced since the late 90's.

now that i re-read this... perhaps it wasn't your fuel cap.

5 restarts sounds like something else. when you fix the gas cap, the light should go out immediately if that was the problem, or on the next start-up if it was on already.

i'd get an inspection just in case.

If you want to check it out, most large auto supply stores (Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc.) will check and clear your codes for free. You can also buy a code reader for about $50. A dealership will usually charge $90 to check your codes.

It's October. No more Check Engine repeats. The cap was actually loose. Guys at Toyota/Scion said it can happen. I have a code reader if I need to check it again.
My TPMS was going off every 30-60 days - Left rear. They found a nail. All is well.
