High idle on startup

When starting my XD (if not warm already) it will redline idle for around 2-3 seconds. It has been doing it for a few months and I know its not good for it. Any suggestions?? about 83k miles

draxcaliber 10-11-2011 02:09 AM

wait, so your car is idling at redline, like literally at the top of the tachometer? or it is just idling at a slightly higher rpms to warm up, which it is normally supposed to do when it is cold.

Bfinkas 10-11-2011 02:20 AM

yea. it literally redlines for a couple seconds

draxcaliber 10-11-2011 02:25 AM

is the xD drive by throttle cable? or drive by wire? if it has a regular cable, i'd have somebody start the car while the hood is up to see if binding or something.

Its electronic, not cable. Mine runs a little higher than normal at startup, for warm up, but never redlines. Time for you to go to the stealership..

ok thanks for the help guys.

Bfinkas 10-11-2011 02:44 AM

it redlines for a couple seconds then runs normal after that. its like im pushing the gas pedal when i start it then let it go..

This maybe a silly question, but does it also look like your going 120mph? I'm just saying our cars have startup sequence where the needles jump to maximum then back down.

I don't think that's a silly question because I think he just found his answer.

Bfinkas 10-12-2011 01:29 AM

yes my needles jump to max scale. but it is revving up also.

Nateson 10-12-2011 01:34 AM

Post a video if you can.

Bfinkas 10-12-2011 01:37 AM

its not a normal rev like when your engine is running and you step on the gas.. its like a high revving noise while studdering basically.

Bfinkas 10-12-2011 01:37 AM

I will take a video tomorrow while starting it

YELOSUB 10-13-2011 02:52 AM

Not normal...

CXTKRS1 10-13-2011 06:26 AM

The studdering is the rev limiter kicking in. Have this checked out soon, running such a high RPM with the engine cold is not good in the long run.
