Blu-Logic update: New/better mic placement

5 Attachment(s)
I installed the Blu-logic bluetooth system shortly after I got my xD. I was getting a lot of complaints(especially from my GF) that I was very hard to understand at highway speeds because my voice was mostly being drowned out by road and wind noise. The installation instructions have you mount the microphone way up in the gauge cluster on the right side. I suppose this is the cleanest place to mount it, but it's an awfully long way from your mouth.

I went back to trdsparks.com and looked up the installation instructions for other vehicles and they are all mounted in the gauge cluster too.

In the kit, the mic has about 6 feet of wire attached to it so I contemplated moving the microphone to my sun visor as it would be about a third of the distance from my mouth than it was before. A few days ago, I took out my entire dash to run an amp wire through the firewall using cobalt bravo's dash removal thread. At that time, I also decided to relocate my blu-logic microphone up to my sun visor since my dash was already removed. I routed the wire down the left A-pillar along the existing wires and then along the main wire harness under the dash(circled in yellow) with wire ties. I still had plenty of wire left over when I got to the blu-logic interface behind the radio.

I made sure I had enough slack in the wire to move the sun visor down, and then added a wire tie on the visor pillar to make the installation a little cleaner.

Here's the finished product:

The result? Much better voice quality on the other end. The only drawback here is that if you can't use the sun visor while you're on a call. In my case it's not an issue because I never use it anyway. At my height, it blocks my entire field of forward vision. I can see about an inch above the hood and that's it.

If you're planning on removing the dash for any other project, it would be a great time to install the blu-logic system, or at least move the microphone. You won't regret it.
