Default Shifter surround? I hate you so much

So I'm really ____ed off right now...a little background before my rant:

I have a 5MT, absolutely HATED the rubber obelisk of a "boot" we were given, and decided to swap it out. Pulled out the little surround that our boots connect to, and swapped in a crappy autozone 10 dollar shift boot; it may have sucked, but it looked a hell of a lot better than the rubber, and collected 1/10000000000000 as much dust as the rubber.

So, the autozone boot didn't fit well, no ish right? I didn't care, I made due with it, cut slits into it and plugged it into the boot base; only to snap 1 of the clip pieces. That sucked, and it actually happened quite easily. W/e, it was only one...

Fast forward to today; was sick of the autozone special, and decided to get something a little bit more legit; Redline had a good rep with some of the xD owners so I went ahead and ordered it. Just got it in the mail today was surprised with the quality, it was heavy...thick...actually reminded me of leather (is it real leather? even if its polyester I'm down for it); it's legit so I'm happy. Go to put it in, pull off my boot base and rick:

......? what was that? yeup...another clip snapped off the base. s.o.b. So now, I have a great shift boot, with slits in it just like I had cut into the autozone one, but the base won't even clip in, nor hold the boot....I swear, Toyota designed this thing so it can ONLY HOLD it's rubber counter part, and will reign terror on anyone who tries to switch it out.

SO. Suggestions, PLEASE. Also, anyone selling a MT boot base that I can purchase? lol....

yea definitely not feeling happy about it. I'm riding right now with a brand new shift boot turned upwards so it doesn't interfere with the wires or anything, and the boot surround is clacking around when I shift.

ugh. quite the pain (thnx for the friend add btw :D )

I'm not positive without seeing pics, but could you use some really good adhesive velcro on the part where the clips were and the boot and make it work?
