xD Component Speaker Install (no-cut Tweeter mount)
Forgive me if I missed any threads regarding this subject, but I didn't find much in the xD specific realm. Big thanks to themrfreeze for the informative post on general xD Speaker Install.
I won't go into much detail regarding the speakers or the door panel removal, as this has been covered in the above mentioned thread.
Disclaimer: This is a semi-permanent install. I am not a MECP installer, but I have 7 years of automotive work experience.
My boyfriend recently gave me Alpine SPS-610c and SPS-610 speakers for my 2012 Scion xD.
This is the stock sail panel and the Alpine tweeter. They are pretty close in size, but the mounting hardware that came with the tweeters was too big to fit behind the panel.
I didn't want to cut any holes or have to do any extensive customization, so I opted for my good friend J-B. The old tweeter was removed and the Alpine tweeter was stripped of mounting hardware.
If you're unfamiliar with J-B Kwik, this is a 2 part epoxy that legends are made of.
A little J-B goes a long way, so only two dabs are used.
Like themrfreeze, copper was utilized to bridge the stock tweeter connection.
I temporarily installed the sail panel to adjust wire length. As you can see in my picture, I had the wires a bit too tight. You may wish to route the wires with existing factory wires for cleanliness,
though many audiophiles will say that's a great way to pick up noise.
I installed the network where the door panel allows for room, followed by 3M foam tape, Alpine's mounting bracket, and finally, the woofer.
The clarity from these speakers is a large upgrade from the OEM speakers, but to get more bass, you'll benefit more by adding an amp and/or subwoofer.
