10% ethanol gas mileage

Hey guys. I filled up twice now at a station with the 10% ethanol and noticed a decrease in gas mileage. Anyone else have this experience? It dropped about 3-4 miles per gallon to an average of 30.2 instead of 35-36. My next tank I'm going to fill up at my usual station that doesn't say it has ethanol mixed in to see if I return to the 35-36 mpg average.

With ethanol it will drop gas mileage, but what comes out of the tailpipe is cleaner for then environment. Almost all have ethanol now, its just some have more than others.

I definielty noticed it here when they started using the 10%-dropped from 31mpg to about 28 (that's ok mileage because I drive a lot of urban and city-not much freeway)

It took me a few months to get it straightened out because the different stations switched at different times so I got better mileage using 76 for about 3 months longer than chevron or shell.

ethanol does have a lower energy content then gasoline, this is true.

in a comparison using flex fuel vehicles, in this case, they were chevy impala's, they get 25% fewer mpg running on e-85 then they get running on normal gasoline.

so if running on e-85 decreases fuel mileage by 25%, then e-10 would be...12% the ethanol content, so overall mileage would go down about 3% by my hasty calculations.

ah, so it's true. Well gee, how is that supposed to be cheaper? If they want us to go green so bad, make it cheaper than the alternative!

If they had these for sale, I would have bought two of them!!

you spend more so that you pollute less!

actually, in some countries, like brazil, e-85 gas is alot cheaper because they have a very developed infrastructure for growing, harvesting, refining, shipping and selling e-85. but we don't yet, so until supply and demand catch up, it is more expensive.

but really, e-10 is not going to effect your mpg that much.

also oxygenated fuel, look into it, if we ran on real fuel we could easily get 50 mpg.

i still prefer diesel fuel for mpg, and emissions. that's why i wish the diesel iSt was sold here as an option for the xD.
