2008 scion XD Crank, no start, no codes, no luck
OK, so I’ve read through all the threads and I cannot find a solution to my issue. I’ve checked every sensor that I can think of and I have power and they all appear to work. I even the VVT sensors ran 5 volts to them and confirmed they worked. I have spark I have fuel and I have compression to all cylinders. After multiple cranks, the compression drops because the cylinder walls get washed with fuel. I’ve poured a little bit of oil into each cylinder and crank it over and the compression always builds back up. I tested pressure right before the fuel injectors and I have a little bit over 40 psi. The XD does not have a security immobilizer. The timing chain is still good and check it to make sure it did not jump a tooth. I pulled out every coil and every spark plug and I have have spark. The car has zero codes and it cranks, but it doesn’t start. I unplugged the battery I unplug the computer, plugged everything back in and it still has no codes, cranks, but does not start. I am hitting my head against the wall because I cannot figure this issue out. Luckily, this car is a spare vehicle and just sits there , but I would like to get it running. Does anybody have suggestions or can anybody forward me a similar issue from a different forum? I live in Riverside California and I’m willing to pay somebody to come troubleshoot and help me solve this issue. I am super frustrated at this and I just wanna get this problem solved lol. Anybody have suggestions? Thanks!
It's 100% a timing issue or blown head gasket (far less likely). If you have spark, fuel and air, it's either wrong spark timing or mechanical timing. 40 PSI is less than a third of a normal engine and nowhere near okay. Given I'm almost certain this is an interference engine, all you can do is figure out how it jumped time and hope you got lucky and didn't take out the valves. I strongly suspect a leakdown test will show several dead cylinders.Luckily, the 2ZR is one of cheapest and easiest engines to replace and can be done with hand tools and a engine hoist. It's really easy to tell bad cylinders just by listening to it while cranking.

Hi, did you ever figure out your issue? I'm having a similar issue, if you click on my profile my thread should come up..
I have no start, cranks, suddenly stopped at a red light and just gave up. I also assumed timing was the issue, as your only commenter did as well, but I'm not so sure now, since my timing marks all align perfectly.
Also PS to the guy who responded, he was reporting on FUEL pressure, not compression readings. 40psi is low for this car but 45psi I believe is the healthy spec for these. They said they tested "just before the fuel injectors" hinting they were checking fuel pressure. Anyway. Lmk if you figured your issue out
Thanks
