Im in the market, will be buying in early May. Ive just about decided on a 5spd xD which Ill throw rims on after purchase.
I've built the car on line, putting $5k down would yield me a payment of about $220/mo for 60 months.
Ive noticed the lease deal off to the side and was wondering if anyone has leased a scion. Ive used a GM smartbuy before with plans to own the vehicle, but the Scion lease payments look way too low for someone who would want to own it afterwards. Might be way to much left and then you have another 3 years to pay. So, long story short, is anyone leasing and how did the final deal work out?
Also, is it true scions are no haggle pricing?

Oh come on, where have you been for the last 3-4 years.
Did you search here, on google, on Yahoo or even Scion.com?
Scions are pure priced. But For you here's the definition=
Dealer can sell the car at what ever price they want. It is NOT negotiated but an advertised price. What ever is on their website, on the price menu in the dealership & on their car is the price.
If you don't like it, don't buy it. The same as buying an 60 Inch HDTV.
If you want to be part of the Scion Family don't play the "I'm smart enough to get around this crap" game. The dealership will be nice about it but they will have a big laugh after you leave because they know you will probably go to each dealership and try the same thing only to eat crow with one of them or just go buy a different brand.
Don't miss out on getting an xD, they are great cars! build the car the way you want it on Scion.com Call the dealership that best takes care of their customers & buy it.
BTW Lease / Buy the same thing as far as Price.
If you take care of your car, don't do wild mods, & drive reasonable miles, Lease IS A good way to go. You most times will be able to sell the car for more than your payoff after the end of the 3 years = MAKE MONEY AT THE END OF THE LEASE!!!!!
Then get another!!

Its funny, I did search here and a few posts have guys claiming that they DO haggle.
Its also funny that you assume something about me because of ONE question. You'd think i made a negative remark toward haggling.
Heres a little info for ya so pay very very close attention, I bought a Saturn just because of the no haggle, its a very irritating part of new car purchasing. The new Saturn Astra is alos on my list(theres that darn no haggling again). I actually wish all dealers were no haggle.
The lease number is intruiging, I guess I need to see what they offer as a vehicle worth at the end of the lease.
I always liked smartbuy because my intention is to own it regardless.

Uhm you think $5k down will get you $220/mo? Don't know out there but I put $6k down on mine and I'm paying $243/mo! Thats WITH a co-signer =\
I never knew this but there are TWO credit scores. FICO and an Auto score! Seriously wtf? We barely know how the FICO is works and now there's a separate score for autos?? lol. On the site its totally bogus since they make you think you're using your FICO score when they use your Auto score.
Then again I bought my car so maybe it is slightly cheaper to lease but.. dunno..

elwaylite,
First, welcome to ScionLife. Good choice on the xD, I will be getting one as well sometime in august. ChspkScion's post seems a little unwarranted but I don't think he meant any harm by it. The way Scion's Pure price policy works is that the dealer is allowed to set any price it wants but they have to maintain this price for every customer, they can't lower the price for one customer and not another.
However, its just the final price that you can't haggle over, If I'm not mistaken I think you can haggle over monthly payments and such. But I did not lease my scion so I don't really know much about that process and I could be wrong. Also, the dealers that do allow haggling over scions are technically violating their scion/toyota distributor agreements. But since most people are usually satisfied with the sale, this largely goes unreported. I've heard of this happening before with the xA's because they were discontinued and the dealers just wanted to get rid of the few they had left.
Anyways, best of luck to ya.

If you plan on keeping the car in general it is cheaper to just buy it rather than lease it and then try to finance the balloon at the end. Are you worried that $220 is too high of a payment (seems pretty cheap as far as payments on a new car). Also did you calculate Tax Title and License on that as that will probably push up the price of the car by at least $1,000. I just bought a 5 spd / Man Blue/ VSC / SNS / and Bumper protector. All in all scion's prices are pretty cheap. Also as for no negotiation there is a lot of negotiation that goes on if you are doing a trade, they may set the front price, you just negotiate on trade value. I got my trade up by more than $1000 over what Carmax would pay for my Jeep which is basically them cutting into the price on the other end. Of course I guess with $3000 in options added to the car they have room to come down.

I bought a 2007 Sonata for my wife and they pulled Fico's. I always go into the dealer with my score in a folder along with other items, especially if I have a trade in. Dealers love to BS people if they dont do their homework. Not saying you didn't. My Fico is well into the 700's so Im not worried about interest rates. I used the car price + $1000 for taxes and I get $230/mo with 7% interest.
What Ive read is that dealers have an option of which score they can use, so always take your Fico with you. If they run the auto industry score and its lower, you can show them the Fico and they will use it if they can. From what I understand some dealers HAVE to use the auto industry score.

Im not worried about $230-$250/ month, I just like exploring options, this is why I always liked GMAC's smartbuy program. I think I prefer the xD over the Astra but have not completely decided. Need to drive them both.
If I go with the xD, I plan on a 5sp with the rear spoiler, other than that I just want the car so it should lead to a pretty low sticker. Ill do the same thing I did with our Sonata and buy some nice rims off Discount Tire.
I PM'd with an apology about Haggling.
As far as Scion vs Saturn, The biggest difference between them is the same for Toyota & GM in general. Total Cost of ownership is lower. Compare on www.intellichoice.com to make sure but I have yet to find a GM product that can keep pace with holding resale value & cost of repairs/maintenance over a 5 year period.
It looks like the Astra is a good platform from Europe & is produced in Belgium. It's bigger & has a Combined MPG Score of 27 vs 29 with the xD.
The xD has an electric power assist versus a hydraulic pump that is driven off the crank and the AC works with a electro-magnetic clutch instead of a mechanical one. The AC also cuts of the compressor during acceleration to reduce engine drag. Both of these features provide better than posted real world MPG ratings for 2008 vehicles. I am not sure about GM products in this area. You might ask the sales person. How those systems are run on the ASTRA.
The xD like ALL Scion's holds their value MUCH BETTER than Saturn after 5 years.
Depreciation: Astra = $8,161 xD=$4,456
It will be interesting to get some feedback from your test drive comparison.
Please post it after you drive both.

Thanks.
Im honestly 80/20 Scion for reliability and resale value. I may not even drive the Astra
Im talking to the local Va Scion dealer via email. Even though itll be late April early May, I want to have all my ducks in a row.

Just talked to Casey Scion in Williamsburg Va. With my beacon score itll get me a low 6% rate at 60 mo's. Told em Id look forward to late April and I'd hopefully show up with about $5k down.
Now all I have to do is wait
