best average gas mileage per tank of gas?

i bought my xD a few days ago, almost through my 1st tank of gas and I'm really happy with the gas mileage,. The avg. gas mileage is reading 37.3!!!

I thought it would be cool for people to post up and reset the average gas meter when they fill and record the reading before the tank is over ( eliminating somebody reseting the meter while drafting a semi on the highway and taking the reading for just those few moments lol) . , and post the best u got!!!!

BEST AVG. MPG PER FULL TANK!!!!

Average gas mileage display resets autmagically every time you fill up (per car user manual).

This display also lies mercilessly compared to actual calculated gas mileage. In last 10 tanks it was off at least by 0.9mpg and as much as 3.8mpg (average error of 2.45mpg), The "error" is always in the direction of making you happier, so your 37.3 is actually closer to 34-35mpg, which is still great.

Highest I've seen on that display before fill-up was 42.8mpg, which turned out to be 39.7 after doing the math.

So far my average is 28mpg. I think my lead foot and freeway cruising at 80mph is hurting this figure. Perhaps I will try and drive slower and draft behind some trucks on my next tank!

I am driving an automatic so perhaps that accounts for this mileage hit.

Agree with Zoltiz about lying trip computer. Had my Xd since August. Actual mileage is usually 8-9% lower than indicated. Suspect substantial error is introduced by coasting and when at a stop. The data appear to be derived rather than calculated from a real flow meter. The mpg algorhythm doesn't seem to account for idle fuel consumption and inflates coasting mpg to a 99.9 default.

Seattle is a hilly and traffic clogged town so my mileage (real and indicated) is heavily affected by both these apparently biased variables. Even so, I usually get 32-35 actual mpg in mixed urban/hwy driving and 36-39 on trips across our mountain passes (with careful driving). I am not at all unhappy about the "real world" economy of the xD, I easily surpass the new EPA numbers, but wish Toyota had installed an honest trip computer.

I think there is something wrong with my car... I've put just shy of 3,000 miles on it now and the highest I have seen is 31 MPG.... and that was just once driving from Seattle to Portland... right now it says 26.4 WTF?!?

Im getting less than 300 miles per tank...

installing a truly accurate instant-mpg meter is next to impossible without tuning every tank (see ScanGaugeII - 90-95% correct, but you must fill up on a flat, level surface, at the same pump, at the same station, and recalibrate every fillup. no partial-tanks!).

My '87 Nissan's onboard trip computer measures every mile, and shows your average per mile, not tank.. does the xd maybe do something simmilar? I don't have a manual to look on, but maybe it's showing the average mpg per every 10 miles or so.

It's the foot. Or traffic. But probably both.

My girlfriend drives it half the time and she is a feather foot.
