Default cold weather

so this will be the first winter for most of us. temps average mid to low 30's already here. I already have a dash rattle on the pass side up top. my gas mileage is in the 23's. why you ask? I have to have the A/C on all the time or all the windows fog up bad. If memory serves, this is why I dumped my last car. I got tired of that. By A/c on all the time, I mean I have to have the defog on and that trips the condenser no matter what the heat setting is. Booooo! A/C runs more now than all summer. and $75 for an cabin filter?!

Man that sucks about the windows fogging up. When I lived back east it was major pain for me, but luckily here in AZ our humidity hovers around like 9% and I never have foggy windows unless its pouring out...which almost never happens. But man, 23mpg? Thats pretty crap. Worst I've gotten was 28.

I was also going to suggest something that could help foggy windows...Go over by a local diving store or shop, where they sell tanks, suits, goggles, ect. They'll usually have a product that divers use to help them from their goggles fogging up, its like a pasty wax. I've never tried it on my car windows, but it might be worth a shot if its a constant problem. I dont know if it would mess up your tint or not, either. Just an idea...

move the mpg reading to ODO. so you don't have to stare at the "23 mpg"

thats what i do!

(threadjacking here. its been icy/snowing here. would the violent vibrations of the brake pedal be abs. or vsc. or i ____ed my car.)

= )

(on a sidenote helpful hints:
1) do not pump brakes = ) (does something you don't want to the abs)
2) tap the throttle in the event that you fishtail (specifically for FWD cars)

(yes oboogie. this time its not out of my ___ )

tap the throttle. I tried that and spun anyway cuz the E-throttle is too touchy. more like a light switch. on or off. but that's another story. those that are figuring MPG, you're not basing off the gauge are you? I said beore it reads about 4 miles higher than actual figures

Do you have the air coming in from outside or circulating the inside air? Cause having air pulled in from outside helps to cut down on the fog won’t stop it but helps a lot I think.

Make sure you tell your dealer about this - it's your AC vent bumping up against the underside of the top of your dash.....

We need to make this a TSB.

Never use recirculation in cold weather as it will always cause the windows to fog up. I have driven this car is in a lot of cold weather and the windows do not fog as long as recirculate is turned OFF.

Next, the dash rattle can be fixed by the dealer.

I just run front defroster/legs with recirculate on 1 and crack my window a bit (to keep suana conditions from happening lol) and I still get 30 mpg no A/C on for me. My windows only really fog when my gf is in the car and if i'm breaking down with some karoake though

defog turns the on A/C so you know. that's whole point I guess. defogging = taking humidity out of the car. in the summer? A/C means taking the humidity out of the car.

edit: I might add the car sounds like a diesel now. that's seems odd to me.

If you average 28mpg on the highway, it depends how fast you were going. At 65mph I get around 32-38mpg depending on outside temp, hills, and if i have the air on or windows down. If you were going 75-80mph on the highway and got 28mpg I'd say you're right where you should be. But you know what I'm thinking may hurt your milage is the fact that as temperature drops, so does your tire pressure, which really hurts mpg at higher speeds. I'd wouldn't rely completely on your TPMS and check it out.

I just came up to Mammoth Lakes ( 8k elv. ) to visit family for the holidays and in prep i bumped up the tire pressure on my 18"s to 50psi ( max rec. ) and it did a world of difference in my mpg. im getting around 28 highway and thats at high elevation and temps in the 50s durring the day and 20s at night. and i also am not having a problem with foggy windows, i just crack the windows and leave the fresh air on. hope it helps!

ditto, now when that object jams the fan and burns the motor out, its at your expense because you didnt have a filter installed.
