so i have an 08 xd bought it brand new. never had a problem before. i started up my car and it started making a knocking sound i didnt notice it at first i pulled out of my parking space drove 2 feet and then i stopped cause it didnt sound right. opened the hood and it sounded like it was coming from the passenger side of the engine. i dont know what happened. i have almost 26k miles. i live at school during the week (south jersey) and i need my car to drive home on the weekends to work (central jersey). i do regular scheduled maintenance on my car at team toyota in langhorne pa and they do a great job. the only mods i have are a strup exhaust and a dc sports cai. im not sure what to do. there 2 toyota/scion dealers by my school (turnersville and runnemede) but im afraid of driving my car i dont wanna cause any damage. any insight will be greatly appreciated

 

Call a dealer and ask. They may tow it in

Only time i get high rpm's are when I get on the highway. The car is at a toyota dealer here they are gonna look at it in the morning.

I think you did right by taking it in for inspection as it could be many things from valves , rod knock to exhaust leak etc..

 

If it means getting another motor.. ii can sell you mines nd I'll get another motor lol

 

Lol good to know. But I would think if it came to that I should still be under warranty anyway so toyota would take care of that

 

i had my car towed to toyota of runnemede. talked to bob in service he told me its an internal engine problem and he wont know the cause until they start disassembling the motor. he said i might even need a new motor and im still under warranty so toyota would take care of it. they know i need my car so he's working as fast as possible. iv never heard of the xd having a problem like this.

 

the motor must of been built on a friday

 

Hey man ish happens. Could baby a car and still have a problem. Defective part...who knows. That's why warranties exist... just don't let them say "oh your cold air intake made the engine spin a bearing" or that some other random part voided it. But it sounds like their taking care of it

so i just got my car back!! turns out it was what i had originally thought the problem to be..the water pump. it was almost completely detached and was causing the noise. and i had to pay a whopping $0.00! surprised i didnt even had to pay for towing since the dealer i went to uses an outside service. they also fixed the recall on the car for me too. so if your ever in the south jersey area and need a good dealer service i def recommend toyota/scion of runnemede and ask for bob he really helped me out and thanks to everyone on here for your input!
