Running 215/55-16s?
 

Anyone running 215/55-16s?
Was looking to replace OEM tires, and, while the 215s are about 3/4" wider than stock, they are a lot closer to stock circumference than 205/55s and therefore way closer on the speedo (only .4% difference compared to 1.35% on the 205/55s)

I'm running 205/60/16 with no problems and my car is lowered with tanabe DF's

The only reason Bridgstone and Dunlop make tires in that size is because toyota asked them to. Until the xD came along the stock size didn't exist.

That aside, I plan on running the 215/55 for my next set of tires. I'm also currently running 205/60-16.
If there is a Discount Tire near you they will probably test fit one for you to make sure there will be no clearance issues. they've done it for me before.

Yah I was also wondering about this, would like to see some pics before i bite the bullet and buy them. I'm thinking they will look great on the stock steelies compared to the skinny looking 195/60/16. Has anyone else tried this? It seems like it will work just fine, just not certain. My old maxima had 215/55/16 and they seemed to have a nice wide look. I cant stand the way the stock tires look tucked in like that. Im also wondering if the steelies will accomodate them without any bubble look or anything.

Anybody simply running springs should be fine since the drop wont be too radical.

I almost bit on the 215/55s myself but im glad i didnt now. i went 205/55 and am tucking in the front with some rubbing on certain turn angles until i can get the time to roll my fenders. if i had done 215's id be rubbing against the fender wall im pretty sure. but if youre running stock steelies and nothing lower than df210s, you should be fine.

ii jst wanted to see ur ultraleggeras =) lol. I cant really tell but if yours is 205 then I think 215 is possible. maybe jst alil rub. 225 with rolled fenders then that wld be sick!

my old tires were 225/50s, but they were on 15's and yes they did look sick, if only they had filled out the fender well a little better. and my next adventure is 16x8 0et with a 195/50 tires probably. been doing homework on how to fit them. anyways back on topic, df210 fronts are probably an 1" higher than my front, so im sure 215s will fit fine

Man I wish I could find a pic somewhere of what the XD would look like with 215/55/16 and stock suspension height. And find out whether or not it rubs, etc. There's an xd across town with 205/55/16 and it definitely has the 4x4 look to it.. even worse than with the stock 195/60/16. I wonder in the 215's would be any better in regards to this. I notice that Matrix's with 205/55/16 don't have the 4x4 effect. In essence, I guess I'm wondering if the 215's would be an asthetic improvement over the stock junk, as I'm already certain it would be far better handling and ride wise. I gotta get these new friggin tires soon though. Any input anyone?

if youre stock height i seriously doubt youre gonna have any rubbing issues. our stock height is true 4x4.

Hey XD Tool how do you think it will look? Im just wondering if it will be worth doing or if I should just go with the 205's. I was hoping the 215's would fill out the wheelwell a little better, even though i know they are not much or not at all taller, but wider. I'm definitely thinkin it will look a lot better from the back (looks just like a yaris now, an econobox). I don't have the dough for lowering springs and will be using the stock steelies and caps.

Its gonna look almost the same from the side profile. almost no difference at all, except you might have alittle more tire bulge, since the bead lines on your wheels are only 6.5" but the tread width is close to 8.5". where 195s are only 7.75" or so. as for from the rear profile, youd be surprised with the difference 3/4" can make from the back, it looks totally different and way more aggressive. when i was running 225s i loved my rear profile, and looked way better than the 205s im running right now.

Just make sure the 215 youre trying to fit will fit on a 6.5" rim

I went ahead and had 215/55 16 Continental ExtremeContact DWSs installed.
http://tireselector.conti-online.com...es/39/pic1.jpg Nice tire, good grip and look great on the xD. Circumference is almost identical, but the width, as xdtool suggested, does fill the well out to the lip and therefore looks like a larger diameter. Will post pics on car this evening.

These Pirelli Cinturato P7 Plus' were installed over the weekend. The size is 215/55/16, and my XD is stock height. There is no rubbing when I crank the wheel all the way to make a sharp U-turn. The ride is a lot more comforatble, and the car looks better. The whole "pictures don't do it justice" thing applies here.

I'm running a stock 2008 XD with steel wheels & have no clearance issues with the 215/55-16 tires.

Do the sidewalls "bubble out" a lot? Could you post a few pictures of your 215/55/16's on the factory steelies. It would help others who are interested in staying with stock wheels, but want to run 215/55's.

Yeah they bubble out but they don't look ridiculous or anything (at least to me). I think they make the car look much better, especially from the rear.

Also, the car is night & day, night & day better going down the road with these. Way less noise, way more stable/positive feel. I would go this size again in a heartbeat.
