Swapping out TPMS valve stems

My dealership wants to charge me $150 to do this. Sound reasonable? Would be the swap from the old to the new, recalibrating them, and mount/balance included.

No one?

I would just find a local place that'll do it for a lot cheaper.
www.tirerack.com
They have a list of local installers.
You can call and ask.

On recalibrating...
If its like the tC, recalibrating them is just pushing the RESET button in the glovebox.

Thanks! I might try that. So the tC has the same? Hmm...the wheels I bought are actually stock tC rims. Came with valves in them. I didnt look too close but maybe they already have the right valve stems. I'm guessing they wouldnt communicate with my xD's system tho...

If the valve stems are made of metal, then they are probably TPMS sensor valve stems.

Getting different Toyota/Scion TPMS sensors to work with your car involves getting the serial/ID numbers from each TPMS sensor and programming it into your car's computers using some expensive equipment made by Toyota.
I heard it costs around $150 to get reprogramming done at a dealership.
Switching the sensors are cheaper.

Ha, the dealership wants to charge me $150 to move the valves that came on my steelies to the new rims and rebalance them. Sounds like it would cost me the same if I wanted to swap valves or just reprogram the car to use the valves already in the tC rims (they are metal stems).

I think I'll just try a local shop to get them to move the valves from the old steelies to the tC rims and re-balance the wheels.

Goto any tire shop and they'll charge $25 each rim

Yup, just need to pick up a set of lugs this weekend, and stop by probably Pep Boys.

tell us how it goes. Swapping to tc rims, even if u change the stems, does it misread the mph, mileage that you are actually driving?

So I finally got lugs and ended up over at Kost Tire to get things done. Car looks great!

Yea yea I know, I need to lower it. Springs are in the works come income tax refund time. The best part of all? Seems the tire place didnt need to do ANYTHING with the valves except hit the reset button. No lights on the dash all the way home. Of course that was with the old tires/rims back in the cargo area. The tire place test drove it tho with the old tires/rims left behind in the garage with no problems. Hopefully it stays that way. Damn dealership trying to rip me off....
