XD Tires and TPM
So the General 205/55-16 tires had about 62,000 miles on them and while they had a little life left I decided to look for new tires. I've always been interested in getting back to the 195/60 to maybe get a little better fuel economy.
I looked at a lot of tiires and found a Milestar Weatherguard AS710 195/60-16 for 81 bucks each. Yes most milestar tires are Nankang from China but this particular tire is made in USA (probably in the Nokian plant - it looks like a copy of the Nokian Entyre).
I had Discount Tire mount them and ALSO install new TPM sensors (mine were getting flaky). They used a HUF programmable sensor and programmed them with the original sensor numbers so that they did not have to re-enter the numbers in the TPM table thru the OBD connector. It was aHUF snap in sensor part number UV7051 for $45 each including programming.
Everything seems to be working fine. My Generals had 3/32 left and these new tires start out with 11/32 so of course they feel different. Will post a review after some more miles.

Update - after 5-6 days.
Tires - The tires are quiet with decent ride. They go around corners fine with a little audible feedback when pushed harder. They seem more sensitive to small steering inputs than the older ones. No real complaints. Seem to be about 1 mpg better than the 205s
TPM - the huff sensors mentioned above did not work out. Discount tire tried to learn them to the ECM twice - NFG. They then replaced them with VDO 7002A and it took 3-4 tries to relearn them to the ECM.
If you go anywhere but Toyota dealer make sure they know to and are capable of relearning the sensors to the ECM. Will update after the light has been out a week or so.
