Default Control Arm Problems?

Hi there, I'm a newbie with a 2005 xB. I had the front end aligned about a month ago everything seemed fine but every now and then the car would just jog to the right for no apparent reason.
Saturday it stranded me. There was a loud clunk and then no more steering. Had it towed to the place that did my alignment and was told that the control arm broke and that this was a know problem with Scion's.

Has anybody here heard about this? Just want to make sure I'm not getting taken

Thanks

My first 2006 xB now has 169,000 miles on it with my son flogging the snot out of it. My current 2006 xB has 98,000 miles on it. Neither one has ever had a front suspension / steering failure issue.

This is not a known problem. However, i read elsewhere that the ball joint is not serviceable because they want you to replace the whole control arm when you do it. thhis could be myth but im doing mine right now. The part was $40 online so why not.
