Default Serpentine belt tensioner

i just changed my water pump and belt tensioner, I'm putting on a new belt and for the life of me I cannot get it on, just trying to put the belt on is more work then the water pump and tensioner itself. When I try to use a pipe at the end of my wrench for leverage I cannot pull down far enough because it hits the front of the car. So I use my long ratchet instead and I'm able to relieve tension but still not able to get the belt on. I routed the belt correctly and the alternator pulley is the last part I'm trying to get the belt on. one have tips on how they did this. Thanks in advance

Im sure you relieved the tension on the tensioner?

Im sure, by now, you have figured out the problem. What was it? Did you have the incorrect belt?

Heads up! Do not buy Autozone Duralast tensioner pulley I tried two of them with no luck. Went to O'Reillys and got a Gates brand tensioner and the belt went on fine.
Not saying Duralast is bad I've had good results with Duralast but the tensioner pulley for the 2008 Scion doesn't allow the belt to fit on properly.

That is really odd. Both Autozone and O'Reilly say the pulley is 70mm OD. I wonder what is different?
