2008 Scion tC engine tick / vibrating idle / squeaky noise at idle
Hi there , we just bought a 2008 Scion tC , it has 86,000 miles on it . Car is in great overall condition , service records every 5,000 miles , one previous owner , no damage etc. I noticed a engine tick after it warmed up on the test drive . I asked about it he said it's just the Variable Valve timing, long story short I bought the vehicle and after driving it for 4 days keeping it under 4k rpm driving her easy , the ticking has gotten worse . It starts when the vehicle is idling, but goes almost away when you press on the gas and accelerate quickly . But you really hear it when you ease into the pedal or let off, you also hear it when your maintaining speed and not accelerating ( like cruise control). Now the car is vibrating noticeably more at idle and the tick seems louder, I can see the wipers vibrating at idle. Thing is they wouldn't finance a warranty until we refinance in six months so I can't afford to take it to the dealership not knowing where to begin.
Please help

Have you checked for any codes yet? It would be helpful to know if the car is running correctly (no codes) and just making noise. Sometimes if you have air leaks and or sensor failures the car can run improperly and make weird noises from misfires / bucking.
