Default xB Automatic trans Code P0712 issue..Need advice..

Newbie here. I have a 2005 xB with automatic transmission 120K miles. After driving about 75 highway miles on a road trip the check engine light came on. Stopped at Autozone who scanned the car with their scanner.

Trouble Code P0712 came up which is "Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor A circuit low input".

-I'm having multiple problems getting to first base here. Can't find any parts stores local or online including the local Toyota Dealer who has this sensor and even worse no one knows the exact location on the trans.
-Was told by one mechanic that it is probably inside the trans on the valve body. I've changed the fluid and filter and can see several sensors inside the bottom of the trans with the pan off
-Any idea where I can download a parts diagram and possibly steps to replacing this myself.

Any advice appreciated. Bill

Try p. 19 in this document...it's internal to the transmission and located on the valve body.

ATF Temp Sensor Location

I couldn't find anything doing a quick search but you'd be looking for a 'Transmission Temperature Sensor' for a U340E transmission.

Thanks milehigh for the info I really appreciate it. I was able to get the ATF temp sensor and wiring harness ordered from the local Toyota dealer. Last question: Is there anyone here on the board who has access to any factory workshop manual so I can get started on the installation. It appears to be installed inside the valve body internally in the trans and may be labor intensive. Any factory workshop manual info can be downloaded? Specifically "installing the ATF temperature sensor"? Any help appreciated. Thanks all. Bill

Bill,

Can you post up the part number(s) and cost for future reference? Might help someone out down the line.

I've got the factory manuals and that's the first place I went to look for anything I could find on the temp sensor. Nothing at all in the factory manual that I could find.

Your best bet might be to hunt down a manual online specific to rebuilding the U340E transmission.
