New key understanding - 2007 tC
Hey guys, I did a bit of searching before posting this, so hopefully it hasn't already been covered elsewhere.
First off, I just bought the car two days ago and when I stick the key in either driver/passenger side door, the key doesn't turn.
(it will work in the ignition without issue, I read this was due to a double tumbler config in the door locks which is less forgiving)
After extensive jiggling / pulling the door handle, it will eventually turn and unlock. (I'm assuming this to be wear on the key due to both doors being affected)
The seller only had the single non-Fob key.
Searching online, I see several threads about programming the new key, but it's my understanding that there's two parts of this (correct me if I'm wrong).
1. The immobilizer chip programming (I verified it does have the immobilizer) - This would need to be done on any key that you want to use for starting the car.
2. Remote / Fob programming. If I go with the key that remote locks/unlocks the door.
I'm assuming that the programming tricks I've found on YouTube (insert into ignition / open door / etc) is for the remote and not the immobilizer.
Is it possible to program the immobilizer chip portion onto a new key without taking it to a dealer?
If I do end up accidentally engaging the immobilizer, how do you disable this function? (is it timed / will using the original key return it back to normal)

what i had to do when i broke my only key was call a local locksmith, and they just happened to have the right keyfob programmer (that is "supposed" to be a proprietary, dealer only thing) but they got it to program my key. I think they charged me around $150, pricey, but still much betrer than the $350-400 the dealership quoted me. I did hours and hours of research trying to either find a way around the immobilizer, or a way to get a key programmed for cheaper, and that ended up being my best/cheapest option
