Default Air Intake advice..

Hi I am new to this forum and I just recently acquired a bone stock 2006 Scion xA with 28k miles and an auto trans. I’ve done an oil change and changed the spark plugs at first then I added a DC Sport axle back muffler, sounds great! It’s a deep tone but not super loud I just wish it was a little louder actually.
The next upgrade I’m looking to do in an Air Intake system, I need something that will improve hp and add to the sound of the muffler. I don’t mind spending the extra cash on this car since it is in such good condition, I live in California and would need one that is street legal here and won’t through any
Check Engine Light can anybody give me any advice on what I should get?

I am able to answer any questions about my rig, Thanks!

I would Recommend the TRD Cold Air Intake (CAI)
It's Street Legal in All 50 States and will Not give you a Check Engine Light (CEL).

TRD CAI 2006 Scion xA Part No.: PTR03-52060

Unfortunately, it was Discontinued by Toyota.

But, Still Available at Amazon:

Toyota PTR03-52060 Cold Air Intake System Toyota PTR03-52060 Cold Air Intake System

It looks to be a Cone Filter as Shown on:

TRD CAI 2006 Scion xA Part No.: PTR03-52060

I think it was Similar Price to the Scion xA 2004-2005 TRD CAI Part No.: PTR03-52050
Retail for $335. Discount Price was $285.60

The Amazon Price is $204.46 & FREE Shipping. I think it a Good Deal.
I was the Original Owner of a 2006 xB with the Same Engine as the xA.
If I kept it, I Definitely would have went with the TRD CAI Part No.: PTR03-52060.

I Paid over Double for my TRD CAI Part No.: PTR03-21101 and Extremely Happy with my TRD CAI.

TRD CAI and Dyno Test for 2015 Scion tC (Bottom of Page):
Of Course, Your Results Will Vary.

Mine is a Filter box on my 2015 tC RS9

MR LUV
I have that CAI in my 2006 xB and although it's relatively well made (and thus gets a TRD label), it really doesn't add any power that you can notice. (And I have a Borla exhaust too.) Get one if it makes you feel better, but don't expect any performance gains. What you will gain is the ability to drown your engine when going through a deep puddle though due to the revised location of the air filter. Ask me how I know that.

BTW, I'm almost positive that the TRD CAI is just a re-branded aftermarket unit.

More reading about intakes than anyone possibly needs...

Scion xA/xB Air Intake Buyer's Guide

The TRD is a re-branded AEM intake and, unfortunately, there is no CARB-certified intake for a 2006 xA/xB that I know of. The link that 'Mr. Luv' provided indicates that the PTR03-52060 is not emissions legal, so you likely won't be able to get away with running one in California if they do a visual inspection and you need a CARB sticker.

I Miss-Spoken. I was looking at the Previous Year Part No.: PTR03-52050 for the Scion xA 2004-2005; xB 2004-2005 which is Emissions Legal.

The PTR03-52060 for the 2006 xA/xB is Not. Kinda Odd?! (my PTR03-21101 TRD CAI has the CARB sticker and works Excellent)

Thanks to Moderator MileHightC for the correction

Mr. Luv,

No worries and the only reason I remember that is I was trying to figure out the differences in the '04-'05 intakes and the '06 model...never did figure out what it was but remember that one had the CARB certification and the other one didn't.

Not that I condone trying to skirt 'legality' but you can get replacement CARB stickers from some of the intake vendors.
