I was actually considering buying a 08+ Scion xB and after coming here I read there was an Oil consumption issue.

So my question is, is it just certain years that are effected? Or is it more than that a design flaw specific to the engine (2AZ-FE)
from the little information I got something wrong with the pistons, or piston rings and it causes the engine to burn oil excessively.

Tried to ask Toyota about it ooh what a complete waste of time that was pretended to not even know about said issue.

The issue can affect any xB 2nd Generation engine through model year 2015. I have a 2014 and I got notification from Toyota a couple of years ago that my vehicle was covered by the warranty enhancement (10 year/150,000 miles). This issue does not affect all of the engines, and it usually starts to occur after about 60K miles. I still have less than 20K miles on my car, and I drive about 4000 miles per year. My car probably won't hit 60000 miles until it is 15 years old. I get my oil changed at the Toyota dealer every 4000 miles with their full synthetic 0W-20. No issues with consumption but it's still very low mileage. This engine is in many other Toyota vehicles:Toyota Camry, Toyota Matrix S (USA)/XR (Canada)/XRS, Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Corolla XRS, Toyota Camry Solara, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Highlander/Kluger/Harrier, Toyota Estima/Ipsum/Previa/Tarago, Toyota Alphard, Toyota Blade, Toyota Avensis, Scion tC, Scion xB, Toyota MarkX Zio

Does this warranty apply in Canada too or just the US?

Thank you for publishing this! I am second owner of Scion 2010 xB, got sold this car, lots of abuse with keeping it up, and papers of warranty missing.
All recalls not done, I did. Finally ended up calling Toyota Headquarters about the final on the oil consumption test ended 02/5/2020.
No options open to me. Here I am on this site, trying to figure out what to do.
