The original Scion xB was essentially a carryover of Toyota's successful Japanese domestic market (JDM) bb. The new Scion xB shares no such JDM counterpart (at least for right now) and, thus, no direct link to the JDM aftermarket tuning scene-an important driver of modifying trends for the Scion generation. Scion admits this may hurt its street credibility with some of its most highly sought opinion leaders. Though it's not a huge surprise, even the hippest JDM hipster must admit that at $16,230, the second-generation xB is a fantastic bargain.

It will be interesting to see the Mod support for the new cars. As it states--they have no counterparts and thus no headstart.......

Overall width is up 2.8 inches, yet height increases only 0.1.
Ah nothing like accuracy in journalism.

I was at the dealership today and they had one sitting on the lot. I think it looks really nice. Here are my impressions:
* It's definitely longer
* I think, because of proportions, it looks shorter to me.
* The roofline looks almost chopped...maybe because the windows seem smaller
* Not as boxy as I'd like but still looks cool
* The gauge cluster looks more "grown up" but the to me the speedo wasn't differentiated enough...just a row of gauges.
* I like the TC-style door handles more than the cheap lift-up ones we have.
* The space behind the back seat is noticeably larger but still not super-big.

Just my $0.02

I absolutely hated the xB when it came out. The styling bothered me and I couldn't bear to look at one any longer than I had too. Now I love them. This new version looks great. I think the xB/bB appeal to me slightly more, but I can't wait to see what some of you guys do with this one. I only wish Scion would come a little further north so I could pick one up!

Eh? 22/28 on mileage?

Sorry that immediately turns me away, that disappoints me extremely. Why must the American mindset of "bigger is better!" invade this brand!

Under the prior standard (anything before this year) I believe this would have been reported as something like 25/31.

EVERYthing is going to see around a 2 or 3mpg drop in 2007. They made the tests more realistic.

Mine's black. Posted a picture of it here: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=174529

Eventually, I'll be adding the spoiler, lowering springs, and a couple other minor things. Will probably switch to 17" wheels when the original tires wear out.

Actually, the new xB will supposedly eventually be sold in Japan.

I am confused though..I keep seeing posts about this, all these people upset over it not being JDM...I don't understand why people care.

I am seriously not trying to stat a flame war, I just don't understand. What is the difference?

The explanation I got before was that with the gen1 the bB provided tons of mod parts already in existence for modding gen1 xBs when they were first released. There is a lot of really nice stuff available. It definitely has a particular style about it too.

One of the articles somebody linked someplace here talked about the lack of JDM parts availability for the gen2 xB. My thought on that is that if the aftermarket people in the US recognize the opportunities with the gen2 xB, maybe the next big thing in Japan will be USDM mod parts for the xB version when/ if it is actually released there. :D

i saw the new xb at the dealer the other day and i didnt like it at all. its true thats its much bigger than before but it has lost its "boxyness". the hood is longer as well which i dislike. the EPA milage is way lower than before too.

Toyota should have offered two engine options for this one. the original and the new one so people can decide whether to be eco-friendly or not.

check curb weight, if the new xB had the same engine as the old xB, you'd never get anywhere. It weighs more than the tC!

Maybe a non-turbo, lower hp, economy engine. Say 120hp or so. That's an idea. But then again, Scion hasn't offered engine choices yet...why would they start now?

Everything is JDM nowadays. Or everyone trying to get that JDM look. So IMHO, if you own a "SCION" xB2, represent USDM! There's nothing wrong reppin' the "The Land of the Rising Gas Prices".
