Default TRD Springs

What do you all think on the TRD springs? I want a little drop for looks and gas mileage, and for $150 that's not a bad deal. I am not going to be racing it or anything. I am also considering the TRD drop in as well to maintain the warranty. Also, what about the rear wing, is the factory one the best since it's already color matched?

I had the trd springs on my xA a little after when i first bought it and didn't like the ride at all. It was too harsh and stiff. The stock ride was more comfy to me than driving with the trd's. So with saying all that, I only had the trd springs for 3-4 months tops then i sold it cause to me the ride sucked. If you are concerned about the warranty issue then trd springs is an option but the ride quality might not suit your liking.

Yank the snorkel if u do the TRD drop in. Gives u better throttle response plus a deeper intake noise under heavy load.

Check out this site for rear spoilers, has to be the cheapest place around. Factory spoiler, factory paint you can't get any better then this.

I really like my TRD springs. They are the right amount of drop and stiffness for daily driving. My old Goldline springs looked great but the 2+ drop was too much.

With the 17" wheels the ride can be harsh at times, but its the price you pay for solid handling. It is sooooo much fun to feel that connected to the road.

Ok, the harsh ride will be ok, cause it will be mostly freeway driving. Should i put the snorkel back in when i go to the dealer for free oil changes and any warranty work?

You need to hook up with the Scikotics down your way and have an install party. The price will probably be free and you get to hang out with the Scikotics. What more could you ask for?

Ok ... if someone want more than $100, keep looking. It is so easy on an xA/xB to swap springs.

This thread is worthless without pics

Anyone willing to post pics of their drop? There's not enough xA pics when I search. I'm deciding on springs too, TRD, Eibach prokit or h-techs. Ride is probably more important than handling or amount of drop to us, our roads are awful. Had a short ride on prokits and was really surprised by the smoothness of the ride. Rooster, yours looks really good!

Does anyone have the TRD springs with the stock tire size and how do u like ur ride? I would think the ride would be alot smoother and more tolerable than with 17s or 18s.

I have TRD springs with 17s and honestly the ride wasn't that much harsher than stock 15" wheels on standard springs. I was expecting far worse than what it was. Really poor roads are to be avoided, though. The xA by default is a bit jumpy on its own, so if you can handle stock, you can probably handle lowering springs. You can cushion the bumps a bit by adjusting the air pressure of the tires as well.

Haven't had a chance to ride with my winter (15" factory) wheels yet. It'll be a year before I find out.

Pic on TRDs

Also agree about the lack of pix of various xAs on springs with decent side profile shots. I took a chance with the TRDs and got a good deal and I am pretty happy with the result.

NF210s are 1.5" drop right? TRD is 1" drop.

How about a good side shot of Tanabe DF210 2" drop? Anyone?

Looking good, Phil. The wheels are framed nicely. And yours looks great with stock wheels, Duck. I don't think I've seen a lowered xA with the hubcaps before.

I have heard that the TRDs are a stiffer ride over stock, and thats across the entire Scion line.

BTW ... in order to still maintain the warrenty, you have to have the springs installed by a dealer, not your friend down the street. Your $150 TRDs just got a bit pricey with a $200+ install from your local dealer.

True, I was referring to the warranty on the air filter, which will be feeding the engine, which costs alot more to replace than suspension components. Even so, I would just throw the stocker back in before it got towed to the dealer he he.

TRD springs are stiffer than stock. They were designed to be used for thei racing applications (mostly in Japan). They don't lower more because there is a limit to how low a car can be for most racing organizations. Normally the limit is not less than 5" between ground and chassis.

As to warranty work ... before the dealer can refuse warranty work he has to show your mods caused the problem. Its not my opinion, its federal law. I have never been refuse warranty work ... ever. They might try to push a kid around ... but let them try with me.

Get the TRDs and also upgrade to Monroe #5987 rear shocks to smooth out the ride.
Forget the free oil changes if you care about your box. The risk of damage to the box at the hands of the techs outweighs the worth of the "free" oil changes. IMHO
Also, good time to change over to Mobil 1 and Toyota filters is preferably right at 1K.

Default oil change

Well, I have an xA, not a box, so would the monroes apply? So you don't trust the dealer to do oil changes? It's not like jiffy lube is it? What could they screw up?
