it's similar to powdercoated but not baked and not as durable. the guy told me that if i didn't want the lip powdercoated, the oven would blister it. so he recommended the liquicoat. i've never heard of it until yesterday. i know some about powdercoating becuz my taco was covered in it.

one, cost. 1200 to paint vs. 800 for liquicoat. not much of a difference but that 400 will go towards my kaminari cf hood. two, bcuz the 5zr's have fake rivets in them that r glued in (i checked at the tire shop) the paint wouldn't stick on the inside holes due to no sanding. then down the road, there would be chipping and me getting extremely angry. less of a chance with the liquicoat (but always a possibility).

WOW! 1200 to paint rims? I thought it would be much cheaper than that . When I decide on rims I wanted to get them painted a deep purple(like the hulks shorts), Is your so much due to the complexity of the wheel?

$1200 to paint rims?????? thats absurd!!!! I painted many custom rims in my body shop. The bill never ran over $600 or so, and those were ornate rims that required very intricate time consuming masking and sanding. Concerning the paint not sticking in the little holes around the fake plastic bolts.......these areas can be carefully sanded after masking the plastic parts and yes paint will stick in there as long as these areas are abraded a bit and very clean, especially if an etching primer is used before the paint (the correct etching primer should be used on any bare metal surface before painting).

this is sort of a high end shop...ferraris, lambos, porsches, etc. ive been to them before and they do a fantastic job. it was 3hrs a wheel at 70 bucks an hour, plus materials. kind of the only shop i trust around here. its cool tho, they agreed to install my body kit when i get around to saving up for one, even tho the owner doesn't do body kits anymore. ive been noticing lately, around here at least, that shops won't do body kits. too many complaints from the car owners after it is installed and painted. but either way, my wheels will be colormatched. it seems that alot of people that are heavy into their rides are doin that lately. not that im bitin on the trend, just decided to take my builds to the next level of customization.
