Default bbsquad lowered xBs - saw the video - question for low xb's

I was on the bbsquad site and there was a couple of videos of a photoshoot that was done. the xBs in the video were so low, it's not even funny. a single bump or gas station/driveway ramp could send skirts/noses/rear bumpers flying off...

i live in manhattan and have a stock xB, i know even here there are bumps that i could hit that would completely obliterate my stock xB.

aren't you guys nervous 24/7 when driving, especially on the freeway, that something small is gonna be in the road and you're gonna wreck your car hitting it?

I just saw the video and i can't believe anyone would drive a car that low. you have to drive 100% slowly and you always have to worry when ur driving down the street at something hitting your body, drivetrain underneath...

am i missing something? they look great, no doubt about it, and definitely would look great at a show. but as daily drivers, i dont think anyone can drive something while being nervous 100% and having to guage every bump/gradient in the road.... imagine hitting a rock/bump that knocks your transmission or oil pan or something to that serious effect....

getting your car lowered however- springs, bags, etc - makes the car look nice but i think the problems that come with having a car so low far out-weigh the fact that, yea, it looks nice....

just confused,

I had a Slammed Accord back in the day. It looked amazing with 18's and 3.5" drop on a 4door Sedan but the fun only lasted about a year until I realized how stressful it was to drive that low and be worried all the time.

I give mad props to people that daily that low everyday. I couldnt do it anymore. I know my car doesnt look as good since Im not sitting lower but I can only compromise form over function soo much.

thats why you go with bags and can put it up to drive then when you want just kit the switches and put it on the ground where it belongs, all my cars were lowered the farthest they could go in coilovers and the xb i did bags and i will never own another vehicle thats not bagged, its great for those reasons and its a real attention getter

Here ( STL , MO ) very few XB's or any other cars are lowered . Air bags are nice but the wisdom of spending $2000+ on a $16,000 car escapes me.
I love the look but agree that it doesn't work for me in the real world.

Form over function.....you either can or you can't...

If you have to ask.....you'd never understand.

I could not have said it better myself. The xB, stock as it is, is a little low for me - i've always had trucks and cars that were higher off the ground. I cracked the lower lip on the nose a few months back... and that's @ stock height... if it were lower, i'd be missing pieces...

as for the $, i agree, that is a lot of money to spend on an economy car. the dealer wanted 2 grand for navigation and i told him to go f himself - i use a laptop now instead. my cost for navi was like $70 - the cost of the gps reciever + software. i had a laptop.

The days of " check out my mod " are diminishing. The most frequent post today is " Selling my XB " or " Back to Stock sale".

So, in addition to the previous , I'd add , going form stock to air and back all within three years or less seems a lot to achieve a "look" .

Your right....but again you can either do it or you can't.............

Takes a special kind of person to lay under their car at a gas station putting the back bumper back on with zipties and laughing about it..... If your not that person.....or laughing with that person, you'd never under stand.

^ i see your point.

about xb resales tho: how many xBs we see being sold today with a ton of mods and the going price? 12, maybe 13k?

i duno.... all of my "mods" combined i think come out to like $200-$300 maybe... that's it.
- 2 sets of horns, like $130
- mats, $30
- cathodes in the front foot wells + leds - ~$30 (wires, etc)

and altho the modding my box bug has bit me, i am constantly struggling with the question - is it worth it?

i wanted to put rims on also, but again, the steelies are just fine. and most likely, the lighter rims i want will bend if i hit the typical nyc pothole... so for me, throwing my $ into a car that has a harsh road environment like nyc is not a wise decision. that's just me tho...

I tend to drive a car until it dies. So for me modding my xB makes sense. I dont plan on selling it or dumping it or what ever. I have fun working on my car and really like it. Granted, I just got the trd springs so I am not riding on the ground, but I still have to be careful of parking curbs.

Pouring money into a car will never be worth it. Even most people who build custom cars "professionally" never make any real money at it. They just make enough to be able to do what they want.

Dumping money into a car is like putting it in a trash bag and throwing it away.....But the car makes me alot happier. Even when my bumper falls off ...............atleast i have a reason why mine fell off......alot of peoples fall off and they never figure out why.

Hahah.... awesome question.

I drive a pretty slammed xB. Not as low as some, but lower than most. And I have coilovers, not even bags where you can adjust on the fly.

Ive been driving my car just shy of a year, and im only 16 years old. I do worry a bit about hitting stuff, but most of the time accident can be avoided by using only mild caution.....and although this USUALLY works, sometimes accidents CANT be avoided.

Take last week. I was riding down the freeway when a huge piece of rubber that took up almost the entire lane slipped out from under the car ahead of me. Im not much for swerving at 80mph without looking so I tried to clear it. It went under the car, leaving no damage to the front bumper, but nearly ripping off the rear lip on the right side and breaking half of the lip's mounts. I went home, ziptied it, and now its fine.

My .02: yea sometimes cruisin low can suck, but its worth the 5000000000000000000000000000000 stares I get everywhere I drive.

Now as far as modifying in general, thats a whole different story. Reasons for me to mod an xB:

1. If it looks good, its gunna turn heads. Fun.
2. This car was given to me. And id rather MUCH rather drive a bad-___ xB than a stock one.
3. xB's are slower than poop in a straight line, but they have crazy potential on the curves.
4. That being said, with a few suspension mods, you can beat almost ANYTHING on a canyon road.
5. Who doesnt like beating on 35,000+ dollar cars with a box?

amen,

I love driving the I 18, the funnest car I have taken up it is my Xb. My 05 xRunner was fun but the when I am in the XB I really get itno the road. Now after the springs I can't wait. I come from many trucks, 5 Tacoma and a Solid Axle Swapped 89 4Runner on 37's when I never had to worry about hitting things, driving the scion forces me to think.

I am a part of bBsquad and from what they have told me the lower the better lol

Yeah sure we are always being cautious of the roads/bumps/driveways/etc, but it is the look we desire for.

As for random things in the road...I think of it like this.

You never know whats going to happen, so live life to the fullest. You can get hurt from falling off the curb or you can get hurt pushing things to the limit. The choice is yours."

with the TRD springs added, i REALLY want to go down at least another inch! the box is gonna hit that thing in the road even at stock height, they ain't none too high from the factory. i like low 'cause it looks good and it handles good. my v-twin is dropped 2 1/2 inches and while it looks good, my cornering is limited because stuff drags. know what? i still beat stock height bikes! brings me to my point....this old boy asked me one time, "aren't you a little too old to be drivin' (ridin') like that and i replied, "sir, i am a little too old NOT to be drivin' (ridin') like that!" i don't have a death wish...i got a life wish and low and fast is livin bro's!
