Default R1 Racing Wheels, any thoughts?

I went wheel shopping today, I found the R1 Racing GTR-6 in silver, and I think I found the rim I want. They come in 18x7.5, 4x100, +40. I can't believe that they are 2-piece rims for such a great price.
Has anyone had any experience with these rims, or anything like em? I need some feedback before I make a final decision.

The R1 GTR-6's

Another pic of the R1's, (not as bright)

I am also looking at the 5 Zigen Copse 18's, but I like the R1's better.

The 5ZR Copse's

(they come in 4x100 bolt pattern)

Please give me some feedback.
Thanks,

Doc

a few of the members of TSW are running R1 wheels, the wheels are great quality items and look nice on the cars. the price and the quality are awesome, I would highly recommend those wheels.

You may be right, I am only going by what the fitment computer said at the Rim shop. The R1 website isnt very informative, and I can't find a better description anywhere else...

don't get them, that model sucks(j/k) i'm using the now on my car and love them. for price and quality, they're worth it. i think they are one of the better cheaper priced wheels. i never like to skimp on car parts/accessories, but i can't justify wheels that cost around $2-3k when the car is about $16k. doesn't make sense to me.

my friend owns R1(the whole Company) the quality of his products are top notch. I was going to run then myself until I got partial sponsorship by another company. The wheels look great on the cars that are running them.

R1 is a nice looking rim company..
BUT keep in mind.. its jsut a knock off..
5zigen copse are real deal..

view it like this.. u can get a OLD NAVY SWEATER for 30 bucks..
or get a FAKE ___ nautica one(retailing for 69.99) for like 30 bucks..
same price(more or less depending where u go).. but ones a faker.. and
ones real.. i dont care how REAL they look..
its just not original.. if u can live with fake rims then by all means..
i dont care how good the brand is..
its the same thing.

ANCHOR BLUE MEN'S COLOGNE VERSUS KOOLWATER 4 MEN(fake)..
its your pick.. i've seen R1's for 200 bucks per rim.. NO HOOKUP... NO
BARGAINING... just asking.. 200 bucks a rim.. not bad..
shop around and u'll get it cheaper.. if u need more info i'll tell u..
200bucks was 18" rims.. any fake one they make..
the fake gtn.. fake gtp... ummm which ever.. the price was 800 a set(no tires)

but yea.. 5zigen is a pretty good brand.. the company's products aren't
half bad and they market their products TOTALLY affordable for people
liek us.. FN01R-C's are dirt cheap aswell.. like 800 for a set of 18's or so.. i think..
bronze.. black.. silver(nice silver color, its a prizm cut with a finished lip). white and more! goodluck

a few websites have 18" gt-n's volkracing.. REAL deal.. or GTP's for like 1700 or so
for a set of rims.. they're not as expensive as u think.. u figure u save up the money u spend on imitation rims... sell your grill or whatever u spend ur money on.. like don't buy it just yet.. and maybe save up a lil more and u'll have rims no one has!
BRAND NEW 18" volks gtn, gt7 or gtp are like around a lil over 2000 depending on which tires u wanna run.. if u get thank NANGJKOOK crap u might even be right around 2100 or so tops.. i remember i was shopping around a while back.. before i got my xB..

u can find used gt series rims.. off civics/integras for like 1400~1500 a set with
decent tires.. its all possible.. just gotta shop RECYCLER.COM

Agreed 100% But with that being said, i would still like to save on costs and wouldnt mind rolling in replicas. Want JDM? Of course I do, but I think there is room in this market for both the 5-Zigen and Volk Racing from the knock off brands

Downside to getting the knockoff wheels (besides poorer construction quality and apperance compared the the real wheels): they only come in doo doo Honda offsets!

All R1 wheels are ONE PIECE designs. They may look like two piece wheels from afar, but when you see them in person, they are just one piece, trying to achieve the two piece look.

Nilo--If your good friend owns the whole company, I doubt you would talk badly about anything that pops out of the R1 factory. We don't need any more blind backing of companies--there is plenty of that crap going on already.

Put it this way...if R1 is such a great company--why don't they get off of their asses and start coming up with their own wheel designs instead of copying other companies?

You get what you pay for.

Default Forgive my ignorance...

But how can the R1's be knockoffs of the Copse rims when the R1's are 6 spoke and the Copse are 5?

In any case, there will always be purists, and they abound in every hobby/fetish/whatever... I can feel it. Far as I'm concerned 50cent can get a dick sandwich when placed next to someone like Pharoahe Monch, and Nelly and Juvenile are just jokes. Truth is tho, it's all about what you like.

If you're not trying to have your box surrounded by trophies at shows, then what's it matter? Not at all, right? Look at your wallet, then look at what you like in that price range. Be more worried about getting the right offset for your truck and making sure it looks the way you want it to. Definitely pay attention to quality, but if you're not a purist, then it shouldn't matter whether R1 invented those rims, or just liked em' enough to put their own spin (pun intended) on them.

Peace

imo-get what you like, that's all that matters, knock offs copies, original design, all these wheels are quality in the sense that they should not fail and cause an accident. all wheels imported to the usa is either jasso or tuv approved, so they all do meet some quality standards.

it doesn't make send for me to spend $2000-3000 on a car that goes for $15k. i would have rather pruchased a car (and leave it stock) for the same $18k total(like a matrix xr)

imo - all wheels are somewhat of a knock off from some previous design. look at all the mesh style wheels out there and stars.

to me, the 5 zigen corpse(which i do like, but hate to use on our scions because it's a 5spoke with 4 lug holes for our car) look like a copy of some of the 5 spoke work wheels, so to me they are also a knock off/copy.

bottom line to me, if you like the design, get it as you're the only one who has to live with them.

i got the gtr6's becasue they cost half the price of the gt-p's and look good. (i use gt-p's on my other car) the 4 lug holes also look more even with the 6 spokes of the wheel. but that just my opinion and 2 cents.

Who said the R1 "GTP"s are copies of the 5zigen Copse? I sure didn't.

The R1 wheels that he posted are copies of the Volk Racing GTP.

All R1 makes are ripoff designs of other companies. They do not have a single original wheel design.

So the only way to have nice wheels is if you want your car to be entered in car shows and win a lot of trophys??? You know what's funny--the people with the nicest wheels that i've ran into on the street--hate the whole "show ___" concept altogether.

I'm sorry--some of us mod our cars for ourselfs--not so judges can carry clipboards and run circles around them. All of us don't need shows to make ourselves feel better about our rides.

And you mention "be sure to get the right offset for your truck". That is really funny--because the only way to order the "right" offsets for our "trucks" is to go with a company that will actually CUSTOM make rims to order. Last time I checked, R1 didn't do that...nor do Tenzo, etc...all they make in 4x100 is +40 and above, definately the wrong offset for our "trucks".

I still don't see how R1 put their own spin on them...oh you must mean they melted a two piece rim design of the original Volk GT series and made it a one piece CAST wheel, instead of the original FORGED version, and slapped on a R1 center cap right?

I just hate seeing posts about how people get wrong offset wheels because they didn't do the right research to begin with...and I hate seeing people get screwed over that way. Just remember...do it ONCE, do it RIGHT. There is no sense in fixing problems you can just avoid altogether.
