Default Will stretching stock tire compromise safety ?

ok so I am getting sick of staring at the skinny steelies on the pw box and was hoping for a set of sportmax 15x8 002s possibly, but money is tight and was wondering if the stock tire is stretched, aside the whole curb issue, will safety become an issue, like at highway speeds or something could it blow ? I like the look of it but , but not worth putting at risk of course so I value everyone's opinion on this one thank you in advance.

Everyone is going that route with the stock tires it seems. Haven't heard anything bad yet. I'm sure in just the right situation something could happen but everyone says it rides just as nice so I say go for it. Then later when you can afford a wider tire just swap them out.

you may have a bit of a problem finding a shop to do it because "they" cosider it unsafe, but ive see alot of people do it without any problems.

i my self have the sportmax 501 15x7, im sittin a little low with hub spacer and i was worried about rubbing. i with i hade gone with the 15x8.

as long as you can find someone to swop the tires for you i say do it.

there is always risk when you run outside of recommended (stock) sizes....I haven't heard anything bad happening either, but I would switch to a wider tire as soon as your funds are there. With a 8" rim you will have to be careful of the "offset" so you don't have rubbing issues

That's a difference of 1.5" over stock... that's a hell of a stretch.

thanks for the advice everyone, I mean if its not safe, I wont get the 15x8 because I figured cheaper alternative, keep stock tires, I guess I will wait for the 16x8 sportmax with the correct tire, please keep me posted those who have the 15x8 with stretch stockies let me know how there runnin , thank you all -

I have been running the stock tires on 15x8 501's. I have been running that setup since May. I have not had any issues at all. This is a major stretch of tire that I wouldnn't run

well man you could always do the 15x7.
thats what ive got and im happy with it.
i kinda wish i have gone with the 15x8 only because the lip looks cooler. but i like how my box looks like now and it leaves me inthe safe zone.

here are my stretched tires, but their 195/50's

the stock tire looks too chunky to me to use. i bought my tires from tires.com (discount tire direct) and paid 55 bucks a tire. well worth it then swapping out your factory tires which can stay on the factory wheels.

just in case........

Consider that the 185mm/7.3 inches width of the tire is not much different than the 8" wide rim. You should be fine for the remaining life the stock tires have. Gor 4 it!

the 15x8 501s would work on your box, but the 002's might rub.
i've got the 15x8 002's on my egg and they're out kind of far, and i know that the egg has wider fenders than the box....just some food for thought.

most of the ebay autions are for "just" the rims
i got mine off edgeracing.com
just over $400 with hubcentric rings, splinedrive (tuner) lugnuts and shipping.
also very fast shipping, less then a week.

spend a few more dollars and get them with eveything you need from a real compainy
