Default Passing people

Why do some people speed up when you try to pass???

I just don't understand. I've had two people in the past two days that were relatively poking along. When I go to pass I get up about 10 MPH faster than I want to go and by the time I'm a car length ahead they've matched my speed. When I move back into the lane in front they slow down to their original speed. What kind of crap is that???? Is there some unwritten rule of the road that you are supposed to make passing a challenge? I don't have any "race me" stickers on my car. I don't honk the horn three times while I'm passing.

well, i have a thing about letting tall or wide vehicles pass me because i can't see around and over them like normal coupes and sedans. tall vehicles with tinted windows (i can see through cars with untinted windows) and i am a very proactive and alert driver, and i tend to respond to things down the road before the car ahead of me even notices.

if a tall vehicle like a lifted pickup truck/suv or minivan or tall wagon gets ahead of me, i have to drop back to a comfortible following distance so i have enough time to respond to what i can see.

that, or maybe they know that you have the new xb and think you are trying to show off because most scion owners are young punks in the opinion of the uninformed.

do what i do when i have to, just pass with authority. if i want to pass somebody, i usually can , and don't give them the option to refuse me.

Yeah, full throttle usually solves that problem. When I first got my tC, this old guy in his S-class Mercedes flew around me coming to a stop sign, and acted like he wanted to race! All I did was go around him when he pulled in front of me and couldnt find his accelarator. And to top it off, his car is older than I am! So yeah, some people are a**h***s.

And that is why I make passes quickly.

This is why cars need hailing frequencies, like boats.

Some people are just like that, and then if you do end up getting in front of them they just tailgate you ...or try to go around you all fast as if to say "so there".......... lame sauce

i use the "sling shot" technique. so even if they TRY to speed it, its rendered useless because i'm going too fast for them already. leave space between you and the car, accelerate (WOT if you so choose), change lanes and make your pass (accelerating the entire time).

see.... i just had my car outfitted with mach 5 modifications, so i just push a button and jump over them. i don't reccommend getting this done though, because you have to feed a little kid and monkey that live in your trunk. plus, i can't seem to move my mouth the same speed as what i'm trying to say. it's very frustrating.

See, I drive a box, so if I wanna pass someone, I have to plan it 3 hours in advance.

I actually had some grandma in a Sable wagon try to roll me off a light last night... it blew my mind. WTF?

It happens all the time to me I use my turn signals for a good few seconds then move in to the lane but the person behind me gets sooo upset because I got in front of them! Its understandable that if I didn't use turn signals getting upset would be justified but.. I gave them notice! Maybe they're so desensitized to turn signals because lots of people leave them on when they're talking on their damned cell phones.
