Default Cold Air Intakes (question)

This is prolly a dumb question, but here goes.

The complete cold air intake that runs into the driverside wheel well, is there any worrys of water, or during winter for the filter ?

search, it really isn't a problem unless you drive and actually submerge the intake in water. and it is really easy and cheap to just get a bypass valve to prevent hydrolocking (sucking in water)

I believe some CAI have some kind of dryer or water bypass valve in line of the intake tubes. It's still risky to have CAI with that kind of setup IMO. Can't go wrong with the Weapon R cold air box setup.

If you don't remove the vent piece on the front bumper, and all your under pinning and wheel well liner is in place, you shouldn't have any problems running CAI. Any puddle that you would hit that would cause problems with that setup, would be a situation where you would have other damage as well.

just go Short ram. save the money for a little somethin esle on the car. the gains aren;t THAT significant. anyway, Short ram will give you MUCH better throttle response than a Cold Air.

I have TRD; driven over 35k with it. Driven in that nasty week of rain storms back in July and driven in that one nasty ice storm back in March. No problems.

I do worry about the wheel wall gap and the front bumper...cause there's 2 cm gap and I worry about car wash water/rain get in there. Again I have no problems yet (knocking on wood)

The reality is, there should be zero concern for hydrolock on the Injen CAI at least. The entire intake sits inside your splashguard that's bolted flush to the body! Maybe if you literally drove your car into a lake. I've had my Scion over a year and no, not ever, not even once, have I thought I would hydrolock. Tell you the truth, I have never thought about it until I read some people's posts...

For sure go with the short ram. Had one on my 06 box. Great sound and definit noticable gains and no worries of water getting to it.

well the trd's have the bypass comin with it so there's probably as much risk of hydrolocking as not having a cai.

Don't be afraid to go with a knock-off part either if the filter is oiled correctly you wont have a problem. Have a friend with a turboed 98 neon using almost all knock-offs and that car goes like hell. OBX is a good brand and way cheaper.
