Winter Wheels - n00b question...
I'm seriously considering a set of the Konig Minuz wheels. However, it's december and I keep reading about people putting their steelies back on for winter. Why is that? Should I hold off on getting the wheels until summer? I live in california, if that matters at all.
Thanks.
Thanks.
people put on stealies because they live in states where it snows, and the states salt the roads, and the salt and the snow reak havoc on nice fancy wheels, ruining their finish.
also, they just want something cheap to put on some winter tires so they don't have to dismount and remount tires onthe favorite rims.

Winter tires for the steelies are much cheaper than a large ad wide (16" and up) wheel. Compare prices at your local shops or online at tirerack.com
It also takes more energy to push a wider tire through the snow and does adversely affect traction because of its wide profile. It's kind of like putting powder skis on your car (which is the exact opposite of what you want). A narrower tire pushes through the snow easier and doesn't "float" on lots of snow, therefore driving deeper and giving you better traction.
If you don't ever drive in snow then there is no sense waiting....
