Among recent new car buyers whose previous car was a Toyota, Lexus or Scion 68.9 percent bought another Toyota Motor Co. (Charts) product. That's similar to Toyota's retention rate last year, according to J.D. Power.
Scion probably brings down Toyota's percentage. I only know of about 3 people (rrimportracer, SquallHeart and toeveryhour) on these boards that bought another Scion. Other ones are people who get out of xAs and xBs and into tCs, which I have seen quite often. Still, it doesn't compare to the amount of "Bye Bye tC" threads you see.
If there were a replacement for my xB Classic in the Scion/Toyota/Lexus family, I would definitely purchase one when a replacement is needed.
Lacking that, I'd like to stay in the Toyota family, but will only if there is a vehicle that meets my needs.
If there isn't a Toyota family vehicle that meets my needs I will look elsewhere.
(So far Scion/Toyota/Lexus has abandoned the "Urban Utility Vehicle" or "City Car" as of 2007, and substituted a highway cruiser.)

The last several run-ins at various Toyota dealerships have guaranteed my next car won't be a Toyota... sadly. My tC and current xB were my fourth and fifth, respectively. My dad's first car was a Toyota Corolla Tercel, and he's bought almost thirty Toyotas since - but his experiences are the same as mine, and now he's a Honda guy.
Maybe it's SE PA, who knows.

I went from a 94 Corolla to an 06 Corolla. That 94 has made me a Toyota Customer for life.... I drove her till she blew up on the high way. It took a lot to kill her. My son's father was the 2nd owner, he changed to oil only when the oil can light came on... and I started driving it at 96,000 miles. It lived in Syracuse, NY for 3 years, the salt on the roads corroded the front tire axle, it only cost me $150 to fix it. At 120,000 we knew there was a hole in the engine that was just really not cost effective to fix. When she went she had 210,000. RIP.... I miss ol' Blue. She was a good car. Time will only tell if this new one will hold up to the rep. So far, so good.
I tell you what...there's a Toyota dealer out here that I won't have anything to do with, because they have given me advice on repairs that were always out of line. For instance, I brought my '97 Camry to this problem Toyota dealer and the service rep told me they'd have to tear apart the engine to see what was wrong inside. I took my car back with my oil change and said, "Thanks but no thanks." I took it to a dealer much closer to where I live, and they solved the problem with replacing the fuel sensor. In another instance, I merely wanted to have the rotors lightly sanded to get the squeal out, and the rep said they couldn't do it without ripping apart the wheels and basically charging me for brake replacement service, while the other place could do it for less than 1/2 the price quoted by the problem dealer.
A lot of people have good things to say about Beav----n Toyota, but my last 4 experiences were all bad.
You find the dealer you trust and stick with them. You find the people you trust and you stick with them. If others found that particular dealer trustworthy, good for them; I didn't.
That doesn't mean I wouldn't buy a Toyota again; it means that I didn't buy my xB2 at that dealer, and instead went to the one that won my trust. After all, it is about the quality of the car, since you get to choose which dealer to go to.

But yes, I did have a dealer I trusted... but Toyota Motor Corp. took care of that...

The Matrix was on my list before I got the xB, but it just wasn't quite right.
My "market niche" is a "city car" tiny, nimble, roomy, excellent visibility, easy to drive and park in the urban warzone.
I've never missed power in my box - I don't really need any more than it has. I don't need more room than it has inside, and I DEFINITELY don't need it to take up more room outside.
The closest to meeting the needs of that niche in the Toyota family in the US right now, is the xD, but it doesn't have the usable space inside, the very large hatch, or the easy entry/exit of the xB.
The Matrix and Corolla Station Wagon (xB2) are both too large and have more power than necessary for a citycar.
Again, there is nothing on the current market in the US to replace the only example of the Urban Utility Vehicle (UUV) to ever show up here, the xB Classic.
My need is NOT for a highway cruiser, but a tiny urban transport with what seems more room inside than it takes outside. Less than 1% of my drive time is spent on highways.

everyone in my family has a toyota/scion
98 sienna LE, 00 RAV 4 L, 05 tC and 07 tC
cars are great, and last long too
dealers are fu!cken no good sharks
car enthusiasts should be hired, not half-assed cheap labor
at all of the toyota dealers i've been to in washington state, I def knew more about my tC than the service people, parts people, sellers, and mechanics
