Well im about to do my first brake pad change on my xB at 40,000. Changing the breaks is pretty easy but what I wanted to know is if I have to turn the rotors? I had read in another post somewhere that you didnt have to turn them. Is this true. My dad had told me you have to but im not sure...

 

Nope, they are cheap enough to just buy new ones. It's just good insurance against warpage to start fresh. Whenever I do a brake job on a fwd car it gets new rotors.

 

have you changed yours out already? Do you know where I can find a new set for a good price?

 

I still have my originals but I only have 32K miles on the pads and rotors.
They are like 50 bucks each at Autozone which is more than I thought.
If your rotors look nice and didn't pulsate with the old pads I would just throw the new pads in and drive it. Turning the rotors just makes them thinner so I'd pass.

 

i might just have them turned and chenge them out the next brake job. my dad said they looked fine and we were planning on changing them out this weekend. any thoughts on what type of pads i should look into?

 

oh also the shoes on the rear i shoudnt have to worry bout those until the 2nd brake change right? I read somewhere that those need to be changed out every other brake job...

 

the rear may need to be clean and adjusted. I would reccomend either turning the rotors or replacing. Do not just replace the pads. Resurfacing rotors is an important part of a brake service. But for the price I would just replace the pads and rotors all together.
