instructions for changing 2006 xB brakes
I have a 2006 xB and am going to try and change the brakes myself. Can anyone help me with some instructions or tips. It would be really helpful. Thanks
remove front wheels after jacking up the front, set on jackstands.. remove bolt that holds caliper on, remove pads, insert new pads, re-install caliper and bolt.. install front tires, and take off jack stands.. should take you 35 min for fronts.
rears, jackup rear, remove tires.. if drum does not pull free or pull free after a few whacks with a rubber mallet, there is a tension release in the back of the drum. if you feel around, you'll feel a little hole that you can get a finger in.. there is a release wheel similar to what you would find on the back of your headlights for aiming, spin this little guy untill the shoes do not apply any pressure on the drum, and pull the drum off... get yerself a break tool for the springs, and install new shoes.. once all done, drive in reverse for about 20 ft, and let the drums self adjust..
rears should take you bout 45 min to an hour.
if you have never done drum breaks, take it to a pro, you don't want to fight with the springs if you dont have the right tool, or are not handy with tools. the fronts are super easy though... ive trained a monkey to do mine.
