Default Strut nuts

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove that pesky nut that's in the back of the strut? You know, the one conveniently placed underneath that wiper cover thingy???? I've heard Liquid Wrench helps loosen it up. I've tried using a regular wrench, but now that nut is partially stripped.
And as far as removing that wiper cover to make it easier, does anyone have a photo-DIY??
Basically I'm going to be putting in some Tein S-Techs.

Thanx for any help offered!

That sounds like a great idea. And it's only $20. Thanx for the idea.

I had to take some bolts out of the wiper cowl to get it to move enough to shove a socket wrench in there. I think a ratcheting wrench would work, but didn't have one to try out.

Just remove the whole cowl... it's 10 extra minutes and make access so much better.

jack the car up and take a wrench to the bolt, as you start undoing it the stud from the strut should start to go down,

(works when the other 3 bolts are loosen too)

^this is how i installed the Hotchkis Strut Tower Brace, and also same way i got the strut off when i but on the lowering springs..

I always just use an open end wrench to break them loose then the rest of the way with my fingers. You end up having to push down on the tire to lower them enough to remove the nut.

i'll be replacing my front struts this weekend. It's tight. Looks like you have to remove the crowling or loosen it up, so you can get a 12mm 6 point closed end wrench for removal.

idk why ppl want to do it the hard way when you can get all the room you want with removing the cowl and you can properly torque down the top strut nuts to 29 ft-lbs

That's what I do.

If you are worried about stripping the nut, then by all means remove the cowl.
