Wind Deflector Shattered
Got the recall notice about getting the wind deflector laminated to prevent it from shattering. I got it laminated, but it still shattered. Took it to the dealer and they said it was only covered for a year. I was also over the miles for my warranty because I drive for a living. I never asked them how much it was gonna cost me because I was already sitting there for 2 hours for an oil change, and I didn't feel like waiting any longer for them to look at it. Does anyone know about how much this is gonna cost me to get fixed?
ouch...well, the wind deflector is expensive. it is $456.37 from sparks, which is about the best price you can get...as for installation. don't know how much or how long it would take.
and if you would like to order it, here is the link

The recall does not keep it from shattering, it just keeps the glass from flying into your face when it does (just a piece of vinyl on the back of the deflector to help hold the pieces together if it breaks). It is just a safety addition. Warranty would not have gotten it either, since anything could have hit the glass at the right angle and speed and caused it to break. That isnt covered under warranty.
Not sure how much the deflector will run you. I am guessing somewhere around $300 or so just off the top of my head, based upon what other auto glass runs.Labor should be no biggie, as the sunroof components are fairly easy to take apart and put back together.

Happened to me twice........The cost for mine was only $300 and I went to a local body shop and they did the labor for only $50/hour and it's only a 1 hour job.....Scion tried to tell me it was 3 hours and the total price they wanted was $7xx and I had it all done for about $375. Look for my older post for details.
The thing that ____ed me off and made me find a new Toyota dealer for anything I might need is that they replaced it the first time under warranty and they gave me a copy of the bill and on it it said it took 1 hour labor, and then the second time it happens they argued with me over it and told me 3 hours. I had them order the glass, and never picked it up lol.

Car-Parts.com
Absolute best place to find parts. I got a side mirror, gauge trim, and windshield squirters (didn't have mine after I got a carbon fiber hood) for 40 bucks off a wrecked tC and they were all in perfect condition.
